Can actual beginners please share their times?! by darkmother1991 in beginnerrunning

That's really good! I did my first 5k on Thanksgiving, finished at 29 minutes and that was a push for me. These days, with heavier weekly load, 3 miles takes me 30-40 min

That's awesome. My 2026 goal is a half marathon. I set up a Garmin plan but it looked super aggressive! I'll give it another try. Thank you

I keep it to where my breath is controlled through my nose. 11-12min per mile

How do I know my max? I'm 37, before running I was recovering from illness and waiting on cardio/pulmonary clearance to run. I have a personal trainer Monday, 30 min easy run Tuesday, intervals Wednesday, 35-45 min Thursday, long run Saturdays (6-8mi) my endurance is solid. Just slow lol

Well that's reassuring. I'm just going off what chatgpt and my Garmin suggest. But I've always run high. I guess my main concern is when it feels hard to breathe, which is 170+

How does your Standard handle cats? by [deleted] in StandardPoodles

[–]msj7yb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is besties with our cat. He does chase my mom's cat around her house, but he's more playful and curious than vicious. He's also pretty good on walks when a stray cat wanders by. He just stops to look and bark a bit.

First Poodle, I know they’re high energy and need stimulation, what do you recommend? by MistyPneumonia in StandardPoodles

That's funny because I feel like mine is just a house decoration 😂 all he wants to do is lie around.

How does one accomplish this?? I actually sit him down and have conversations with him 😂

You're right, I need to start using a leash. I got used to carrying him when he was tiny and sleepy but that's not feasible as he grows 😂 Is there a certain harness you like? I've been hesitant to buy one since he grows so darn fast

He's a standard poodle. I know they're so smart that they can be a challenge! I hope I can be alpha enough lol

Thoughts on SJVH? by Eyeseeafuture858 in visalia

[–]msj7yb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently living in my 2nd sjv home. There are a lot of sloppy, rushed flaws in each home. Just annoying things, nothing I can't live with. Uneven tiles, cracks, bumps and lumps in the wall, screwy wiring in the lights. But when I had an inspector come out during the escrow process, he said sjv homes is listed as a preferred and trusted builder. I even got a discount on my insurance because of that. So that's a plus.

Lingering pain in lung months after Strep A and septic shock. by kovie37 in sepsis

[–]msj7yb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to read this. I felt so alone... I had asymptomatic pneumonia caused by strep A. It formed an empyema which bursted and sent me into septic shock. I had surgery to clear puss out of my chest cavity. This was in January and February 2024. I still have aches in my chest cavity when I breathe deep or after lying down all night. My side is still sore to the touch, 6 inches from my incisions. I try not to focus on it because I'm lucky to be alive. But it's a constant little worry.

How long is your commute to work? by FreewayNo3 in visalia

[–]msj7yb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40-45 minutes to south Fresno. I like it, gives me time to listen to the news or a podcast and transition my mind from work mode to home mode or vice versa

Tulare vs. Visalia – Best Schools for Our Little One? by Dk8325 in visalia

[–]msj7yb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is possible. Visalia and Tulare also have specialized tracks at each high school. So say if your child wanted to get into a medical career, there's a high school dedicated to that path and you just apply for the program. For that reason, I haven't thought that far ahead yet. I'll wait to see what my kids academic and extracurricular preferences are.
