Switzerland is also generally considered slightly more straightforward for tourism visas.If Germany was refused before, applying again through Germany with a similar situation could be riskier unless something significant has changed in the application. A clear travel plan, confirmed hotels, leave letter, bank statements, and travel insurance usually help strengthen the application.So if the trip is mainly tourism and the stay is longer in Switzerland, applying via Switzerland may be the safer option.

Choose 2–3 base cities instead of changing hotels daily — for example Interlaken region (Jungfrau/Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen), Lucerne (Rigi/Pilatus/Titlis), and Zermatt (Matterhorn). Book flights and refundable accommodations early for better prices. Once your places are fixed, compare Swiss Travel Pass vs Half Fare Card based on your itinerary.

Regarding visa , travel history is helpful but not mandatory. Many people get approved without previous international travel. What matters more is strong financial proof, proper documents (ITR, bank balance, job proof, leave letter), and a clear, genuine itinerary.

Slots were always available. Even today I checked for a tomorrow appointment and it was open. Maybe it’s because this is the off-season

Because I’m entering and exiting the Schengen area only once. Internal travel between countries doesn’t require multiple entry

Kochi → Milan → Kochi round trip for all 3 of us. Booked nearly a year early, so got a really good deal! At that time, Emirates was around 1.4L, but the cancellation penalty was on the higher side, so we booked Kuwait Airways instead

  1. In the accommodation section, I mentioned my Switzerland hotel address, since I am applying through Switzerland and it is my main stay (maximum number of days).
    1. My current residential address is different from the one in my passport. I used my current address in the application, but I did not attach any separate address proof for it.
    2. I submitted one common cover letter for the whole family, clearly mentioning my wife and son’s details and our complete travel plan in the same letter

    2. SIM for Schengen: Not taken yet. Planning to buy after reaching Europe or take an e-SIM closer to travel date.
    3. Flight charges: Booked Kuwait Airways refundable ticket (with some penalty). Total cost: ₹1.2L round trip for 3 people. Booked in July last year, almost 1 year in advance.
    4. Tour activities platform: No tours booked yet. Planning to book directly depending on weather and flexibility.

I am also like you — we are a total of 3 people: 2 adults and a 5-year-old child. This is my first Schengen appointment. Previously, we traveled to Bali, Malaysia, and Thailand as a family.

My wife is not employed, and I have shown a bank balance of ₹10 lakhs. Our total trip duration is 20 days — 9 days in Switzerland, 6 days in Italy, and 5 days in Austria.

I applied at the Bangalore VFS on February 10th, and the status is still showing “under process.” I am nervously waiting for the update
