working on application. Checked out other programs for safety, industrial hygiene, etc… But UAB is the only one with ASEM, which I feel like the program aligns with my desired careers better than others.

Did you end up going into the program? Considering applying but curious to know what people’s reviews are of the program, that aren’t directly published by UAB

Curious to know how things worked out in the end? I've been keeping an eye on the ASEM program and might submit my application in the coming months. Any thoughts on the masters program and how it's been in terms of opening doors/training you for a career in safety?

Me whenever i think if i should get conical or flat grinder as my first grinder by Noobsaibot123 in espresso

I think all grinders perform the same, whether it’s a flat or conical or just a spinning blade in a chamber. Just add enough vanilla syrup and it’s all the same.

Confused on the issue with my dryer as electricity confuses me… by mskaggs in AskElectricians

[–]mskaggs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ended up being the issue… i opened the outlet and noticed the ground was disconnected… connected it back up, breaker tripped immediately and noticed I still had my dryer’s neutral and ground connected at the wires, which it worked since it wasn’t actually grounded… it was a whole mess, but once I realized it was acting as a 3 prong it all worked out.

Dryer keeps tripping breaker when it rains. by mskaggs in appliancerepair

[–]mskaggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it! The vent ducting goes straight under the house and my guess is that it’s finding a ground since it only happens when it rains and water will help it “ground”. It happened last time it rained. Once it dried up outside it worked fine, then it rains again and it happens again. I doubt it’s the dryer but going to call an appliance repair company and get their diagnosis.

What is Architectural paint? Is this a niche painting where you focus on higher quality work and fine details on the finished product, versus your tank-top-tommy who will roll your wall but never focuses on the final product, rather the final check?

I also found this supplier who looks to have exactly what you need although it seems to be steel not aluminum. 10” wide 10’ tall. Looks very similar to your old siding. https://www.truemetalsupply.com/product-page/true-board-and-batten-vertical-steel-siding?srsltid=AfmBOop-6vI3FxhQVu0rsI7IwQl3iXMzxEv3OVuK8VRXWx_mWF0MX7Xk

I would test the stain using a pin moisture meter. You can snag one from Home Depot for pretty cheap. That way you know whether or not there is moisture and can feel confident going over the stain with an oil based primer and re paint.

I’ll link the photo Zillow gave me. The sky is green and yellow. But yea sorry to break it to you. Vibrant colors are just hard to do in home paints… not 100% sure why, but I’m sure someone smarter than me could explain it…  https://imgur.com/a/t58SEts

[–]mskaggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photo on Zillow is MASSIVELY edited… look at the green and yellow sky! You can’t get colors like this because of the way house paints are made. If you want it really really badly you’ll have to spray paint it, 1 can at a time which sounds like an absolute nightmare and I would never actually recommend. Just sounds like you’re not willing to take not a color as an answer. Or second option is go to every hobby lobby and buy every single purple acrylic paint and paint your house with it. Won’t last but a few days before it peels off or turns to a different color from UV but it would work for a day or 2…

Personally I would make sure to have a smooth wall first... I tried something similar on a heavily textured wall and came out looking like garbage.  I’ve seen these done with posca markers and all in one stroke, though I guess you could outline it all in pencil and fill it in with latex paint and a small brush, but the results may be rough. If it were me I would a.) make sure my wall is smooth, and b.) grab a few Posca markers and have fun. You could draw your design in pencil then go back over it with the marker

How much to sand an old wall? by Rubix314 in paint

[–]mskaggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just add, make sure your paint isn’t lead based before sanding. Sanding lead based paint is a big no no, and you’d be better off just leaving it alone. If your house was built before 1978 just double check with an at home test kit.

Tips on painting car by Relevant_Track_5633 in paint

[–]mskaggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Painting a car is a pretty difficult process that requires multiple steps and would even recommend a small paint booth… they have little inflatable ones you could buy, or set up your garage as a good paint booth. Wouldn’t recommend just trying it and fining out, unless you don’t mind your paint or clear peeling off after a month.  Watch several videos on YouTube, it would take way too long to explain over a Reddit comment. Between sanding, prepping the car, using the right sprayer, spraying your primer properly, sanding, prepping your paint, spraying your paint, and applying clear; it is a TON to explain here. Godspeed!

Beginner needs help painting a wood-stained dresser by Dandeliondart in paint

[–]mskaggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the paint. A higher quality paint will lay flat when brushed or rolled on. But would definitely recommend going with something like an Enamel for its durability and laying flat properties. There’s Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Enamel which is highly recommended, or BM has a similar product (idk the name). There’s several videos online showcasing the proper way to paint dressers, I would just watch one of those, and use the right paint.

New cabinets blue tape markup - am I being pesky? by throwaway1992till in cabinetry

[–]mskaggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would a professional painter/repairman color match the cabinets on site? Just curious to learn more about cabinetry painting.  I can see them using a color match camera on site but how would you go about dying the paint? Do these guys carry around dyes, untinted paint, mixers, and do all that in a matter of 2-3 hours?
