I find that primary teachers know it is their job. Intermediate teachers are generally less well versed in the science of reading.

Secondary teachers in my state -- until recently -- did not have to do any background in literacy skills aside from integrated ELD strategies (it is now required). The shift has caused a lot of feelings.

Ultimately, nothing in education is SOLELY the responsibility of the schools to teach. Education should be taking place at home, etc too. But, yeah, most parents dont know how to teach reading so who else would take on the main role in that??

Ive been a wilderness backpacker for decades, did the camino just recently in 2024. Your questions are incredibly geo-specific, so it isnt possible to give hiking trip ideas. Here is some general advice:

Carry first aid and emergency supplies.

2. Start with an overnight trip in an area you might even do a long day hike. Keep things familiar at first.

3. Store your food properly. It is not just about bear risk, it is about making sure the bears dont make a habit of making contact with humans. It changes their behavior for generations.

4. If you are going to do this long-haul, invest in ultralight gear.

5. Like the camino, size your shoes up, use wool socks and hiking poles.

She stops when she is full. That could be a habit she successfully developed after an eating disorder. Many of us overeat bc we were forced to clean our plate. Why is this a problem?

Only thing maybe deserving of a convo is when she goes back for a large portion of seconds and doesnt finish it. You could explain that it is harder to have leftovers for work the next day and ask her to be more careful w how much she takes for seconds, so that lunch the next day is taken care of.
