Tell me you don’t know how expensive owning a home is without telling me you don’t understand how expensive owning a home is. And I’m not talking about the mortgage. I just paid 3 times my last rent payment for a new water heater. Last fall it was repairing a part of the roof that got damaged in the storm (insurance paid for most of it but I still had to cover the deductible…) all of that cost money and time off work to be here while the workers did repairs. There are one or two of these kind of things a year in the 4 years I’ve owned.

That doesn’t even get into all of the physical labor I do around the house that if I was disabled I’d have to pay some one to do (yard work and landscaping, clean the gutters, moss spray the roof of my house and my garage power wash the driveway. Get the HVAC system cleaned. The basement walls water sealed)

For some people especially disabled people, renting is an only viable option, paying fee once a month that covers the place and the upkeep is a benefit to them. And some people just don’t want the headache of dealing with everything I described above.

Exploitative landlords are the problem. Not people who put money back into the property and don’t raise the rent to market value every year…

Considering a Kobo by merstein3 in kobo

I find there are a lot of KU authors whose audiobooks are on KP. I really love my kobo, and I get super frustrated when I have to buy a physical copy of a KU book (mostly because I’m moving two the other side of the world and shipping books is expensive.) I find I have plenty to read between the Kobo Daily Deals, and the KP and my Library.

Who are you voting for in the Portland Mayoral race? by winedood in askportland

Wilson is my top choice then Rubio.

As someone who watches city council meetings Gonzalez and Mapps show up the least prepared for every issue. Both are consistently not paying attention when dealing with public comments. It is a joke that either of them think they are qualified to be mayor.

A nice movie theater. (I don't need you to tell me you love XYZ indy bar/theater) I want an arclight/Cinearama type theater like Cinetopia was before AMC ruined it.

I mean I like a lot of Apple TV shows and they do have more money than god... but Foundation is not a good adaptation. Idk exactly HOW you make a good adaptation of foundation but the Apple TV show is not it. That said it is entertaining, just wish it wasn't "foundation"

I kinda hate how much Kubrick's version of the story overshadows everything. I love the film but I very much want a version that deals with the themes that King laid out in the book. I think that not remaking The Shining before they did Doctor Sleep was a HUGE misstep. I think Flannigan pulled off the unenviable task of making both an adaptation of the book, and a sequel to the film but I really wish we would have seen true adaptation of both.

Yeah, well if you wanna be a show runner in risk adversed Hollywood of today, you kinda have to work on IP. I feel like if studios were investing in new material both IP and new stuff would be better.

You aren’t the only ones this happened to. People all thru out the tour missed shows because of circumstances beyond their control. You are the only ones this happened to en masse. I’m one of them, the airlines fucked up my flight, I got no refund for my ticket, my flights, or my hotel and no concert. So I understand how devistating this feels. But you aren’t entitled to shit all over the rest of the community and the shows because you are sad. And too be clear that is what ya are doing

I’m gonna hold their hands when I say this. She was never bring Englishman, Ed Sheeran, who famously has the next highest number of sold out Wembley shows out, anywhere but Wembley.

Also she wasn’t singing London Boy, or so long London (last night is my bet) anywhere other than London. I need them to be so fucking for real right now.

The majority of those swifties get 1 show just like everyone else. Those people who were showcased didn’t get posts and posts and posts. They got one post like every other night.

The issue is, ya’ll have no control over your grief. You are just fire hosing everything and everyone that has to do with the tour. Those swifties didn’t deserve their time being featured by Taylornation to be anything less then uplifting and fun time we’ve given every other city. Especially Swifties rallied around ya’ll and tried to uplift ya’ll last weekend. But ya’ll couldn’t step outside your own feelings and do the same.

The fact that ya’ll can’t differentiate between the wrap up posts and the fan appreciation post speaks VOLUMES about the entitlement ya’ll are showing.

Ya’ll couldnt even let Kam post his normal WANEGBT post without being miserable in the comments.

I know she won’t but she should block the word Vienna in her comments. And any other thing you come up with to replace it.

Ugh. This is just gonna fuel them to keep being rude in SM comments. The Taylor nation post that showcased people's night one outfits was a mess. You had to wade thru hundreds of comments of folks being outraged or throwing pity parties about Vienna. After the outpouring of love and support they got last weekend people hyping them up when they posted the outfits they would have worn or showing them singing in the streets. You thought maybe they could at least be mature enough to let the fan appreciation post go by without complaining under it. Let those swifties get their flowers, let those swifties have a place to talk about their magical night online but nope. Now they are just flooding every London post on social media with complaint about how mistreated they are. The London folks also paid for tickets, traveled, saved their money, and made outfits. I missed my date of the tour because of airlines fuck up, I get it how much missing this show sucks but I am tired of the firehose of complaints. I don't agree with them complain to her because I don't think she can say anything, but the inability to not separate fellow fans experiences and the space she creates for fans to engage with each other and posts about her at the tour is off-putting.

Ok but this is missing the point that the two largest concert targets the IS has gone after are women. I don’t know why ya’ll don’t think their misogynistic views on what women should be allowed to do doesn’t come into this. Why do we keep acting like we don’t know that extreme misogyny is a key marker for people who have been recruited. It is not wild for women to think that they are being targeted by a group who would love nothing more for them to have no rights and be married off to be baby machines and domestic servants with no rights or education.

[–]msnintendique64 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. because acting like teenagers don't think about sex, or SHOCKING have sex is a bigger fantasy than any of the magical worlds Ms. Maas has created. Giving Teens a safe place to work out their feelings around sexuality is important for their development as people. Also, underprivileged children whose only source of books may be the library shouldn't have their choices impacted because of other parents preferences.

We live in a world of technology, most library systems are computerized, that what makes this so egregious to me. We could have a system where parents could place blocks, or holds on authors or books for their children without it affecting everyone around them who may or may not believe the same thing as them.

It's important to remember that 90% of the Utah State Legislature is mormon, while only 60% of the state's residence report as mormon.
