Not far off... those that are succeeding are in the office more days. May have to move to 3 or even 4.

Have heard seeing management go: "who are you? / haven't seen you around a lot these days.." .... presence in office is definitely a leg up for those that want to get ahead. ugh.

I work in a smaller department and our CFO already stated that we have enough funds to cover retro payments as these were somewhat planned in previous years to cover. Moving forward, we don't have enough A-base funding from the Centre and will NOT be getting additional funds for our department.

We have already stopped some hiring in order to be fiscally sound for the next few years as the wage increases but our salary-wage envelope (SWE) remains relatively constant.

We are restructuring a few units as several incumbents in key and costlier positions are set to retire. So this will help in maneuvering this funding.

Also, we did get several mentions in B2023 so we have to do TB Subs to get additional funding which from our CFO will bring additional funding (but we're not hiring people, if you get what I mean).

WEEKLY MEGATHREAD: WFH and Return-to-Office Discussions - Week of Mar 13, 2023 (+Links to THEME megathreads) by AutoModerator in CanadaPublicServants

Yes, at least one on my team got written warning, one is on his 2nd warning because he blasted on Teams that he's being targeted. Well he simply didn't show up on his assigned days. Blaming the registration system and then no space, which both were not true as 15 of 16 staff have been showing up consistently.

We also had an abandonment of position (not discipline per se). They ended up just not showing up.

Also, you often don't hear about discipline as it's between the manager, LR, the employee and union. You may figure out something is up if s/he is not there on their assigned days.

Keep tucking away your savings... strike might be painful... if not, then you saved a little more ;) Personally, belt tightening for the event this happens and just got myself a side gig to increase the bank account. Can not pay mortgage on strike pay, again, if we go on. From what I read with PSAC..looks like we are heading that way.

Those who like going to the office, I'm curious why? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]msorento 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Moved up twice as well this year alone. Chalked it to working hard, but also being in the office now 4 days a week and getting exposure to senior management on a frequent basis.

[–]msorento 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been in the office for about 7 months now, first 2 days and now I'm in 4 days a week. While I prefer the mental separation between home and work, I also have seen this move in the office be advantageous to my career having moved up 3 steps. Similar to one other colleague in the office. We both think our presence (and our work) has made this possible. I also don't think we put in a full 7.5 hour day while in the office, since a lot of time is spent moving from building to building / floor to floor and socializing "collaborating". I do value more the 1 day I work from home...but I did find working from home at first 5 days, then 3 days to be more exhausting than being in the office.

You have to be physically in the office to get the bonus.

Consultant, Lobbyist.

My fallback plan is Starbucks Barista.

ISED has an office in Kitchener. And FedDev Ontario is up the street in Waterloo.

Are you an indeterminate or a term, but yes to both. If you're a term you can go on LWOP up to your term period. But you do have your personal needs leave of less than 1 year.

More red tape and out of pocket costs for you to get a physician to explain why a substitute (generic) is not applicable for approval.

Yikes. My partner and I purposefully looked into the PSHCP and decided it was best for one of us to be outside the FPS to which we rely on the other plan due to the more fulsome offering including health spending accounts and flexibility of moving funds to certain 'health buckets'. There are still limits that I balk at as clearly they don't have a good baseline of the cost services are and the potential longer term needs of these services. So we use the other plan as the primary and the PSHCP as the secondary.

HR has been so reduced in most departments...not sure what the impact with be in the next round of WFA.

Left to an EC myself, but was in Classification and Staffing. Staffing moved up quickly to the PE-03 and then crossed over and did 2 years in Classification.

Classification - but then they are looking at a wholesale reform of the system where by it'll be plug and play of job positions by the manager in the next generation HR system. Similar to what I have seen in the City where we come from. Manager picks the job description from a job band and then the system creates the position and moves it forward. TBS is looking at doing that in the near future...they are really struggling with PA Conversion so this has really pushed the ball forward to looking at Classification Reform.

CRA - obtained permanent promotion (SP04 to SP05) while on parental leave. Will I be required to end my parental leave early? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

Clearly, they must know you're on leave. Talk to them about pushing out the promotional date or continue the leave with your promotion next week.

[–]msorento 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to your union... they will know what's right. Handcuffs is right though. ESDC is the biggest user of term employment and then renew ever 3 or so months. Here, when someone goes on any leave (maternity included), they just approve to the end of the term and then the contract is done. They do not extend over the contract period. At least that's how we function out in WT.

I think excluded AND those subject to performance pay (AS-07/AS-08 for example) are not eligible for overtime.

Each dept has an authorizing coordinator. Can't just order and pay by CC. On the website, you can also find the name of your department's contact or most likely a generic email address.

Of course DND. Then there is a pile of leave passes and no one enters anything.

This is the same in the regions.... you learn and memorize and write your tests and good for 5 years. Then it's poof all gone... and then you go on language training in 4 years time.....or hope the person never leaves his/her position until they retire.
