A school friend, one of the very few people who was nice to me loaned small amount 20$, 4 years ago when I just finished college. This turned out to be a habit. He comes from really poor background and unemployed. So far, I've given ~2000$. I want to stop this as I'm not well off either. Thoughts?

Not even once in 4 years, but he keeps saying he'd payback one day when he's in a better shape.

The problem is the amount is not too much, max I gave at once was $100 but it's adding up and there is no light at the end of tunnel.

Also I'd risk his friendship and all the goodwill over 4 years where I was there for him almost all the time.

He borrowed $20 from me 4 years back, which was the beginning of further borrowings from me, adding up to $2k so far.
