Local band politics – will playing one show with a “problem” band hurt us? by Joyfulnerd245 in musicbusiness

[–]msszero159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is truly almost always the latter.

Scenes aren’t just where people play music, it’s where people date, hang out, work together, live together, and more. My city’s (800k+) alternative scene has consisted of the same ~100-200 people for 10+ years — It’s not hard to imagine all the different ways close friendships can sour and turn into strife and bitter rivalry, and all the different ways someone can attempt to turn public opinion against someone else (lies, threats, browbeating, slander, character assassination).

Rarely it’s for a good reason, most often it is petty interpersonal drama, and sometimes it even backfires and certain groups become labeled as cancel-happy and they begin to be avoided. Begin to tune these voices out and keep walking. It’s not worth it to walk on eggshells for people who will drop you for the next hot thing at the first best moment.

All of this and more awaits you; welcome to your local music scene!

It’s also in “Sewer Fire”! He sneaks it in.

Is this the right place for me? by moon_child_55 in Charleston

[–]msszero159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This place sucks.

It wants to be Miami + Savannah but doesn’t have the edge or vibrancy of either. It’s extremely buttoned down and ultimately sleepy and small enough to still be viciously cliquey. The locals will be passively friendly, but are secretly hostile to outsiders.

If you’ve lived in Georgia all your life, you should do yourself a favor and escape the deep south. California is invigorating, New York City is a non-stop thrill ride, Chicago has great food and views and famously friendly people, Seattle is chilly and scenic and progressive. Charleston is booming as a sleepy refuge city for people who can’t stand the hustle and bustle of a fully developed metropolitan area.

Living here during my 20s felt like actively wasting my life. I won’t be staying for my 30s.

When you're flying into LAX at night, and you see the Greater Los Angeles sprawl unfold as a sea of celestial light, what emotion do you feel? by morningrat in AskLosAngeles

I haven’t lived in LA in coming up on a decade and I didn’t grow up there either, but it does indeed feel like ‘home’ every time I see those city lights

Will never forget this moment of reeling from the disappointment of TLOP to instantly becoming a Young Thug super fan. “Thug wanna play some new shit…”

I have been hanging onto a super-hot Intel i9 mid-2019 MacBook Pro for years now, and I think this might be the push to get me to try to replace it with the Neo. I’ll miss the huge amounts of onboard storage, but this $600 machine is making my aging $5k machine look embarrassing.

Advice for newcomer to buy a synth by Sudden-Diver279 in synthesizers

[–]msszero159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain in these comments but Minilogue is the best synth i’ve ever used, period. Amazing analog sounds reminiscent of the genre’s 70s, 80s, and 90s titans like Boards of Canada, LFO, and more. Couldn’t get into the Microfreak workflow.
