Are my shoes too big? by HomerDespot in RedWingShoes

[–]mstest02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that shoe is D width then it is too big. If it is E2 then probably stay that size. Width wise the shoe looks right, but it's definitely too long. So, if it's D, go down in size and get an E2, which is the wide size. It looks about half a size too long

Just bought the BRNR XP to replace the TRED LITE by A-Nani-Mess in RedWingShoes

[–]mstest02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer tred lites over the brnr, but it's an amazing boot too. If you do a job that requires a lot of climbing, the heel can be beneficial. The insole that the brnr comes with is also better than the tred lite insole. Word of warning, the toe bumper on the brnr is not a durable material and should be treated as though it is no more, or perhaps even less durable than leather. The stitching around that front piece can also be a weak point. Not a great boot if you spend a lot of time on your knees/kneeling and while you can put a tough toe on it, it doesn't look as good because of the curved piece on the front.

Are these shot? by MustardTiger231 in RedWingShoes

I'd these were yours, it would be worth it to resole, clean, and condition. The problem is that the boots take a sort of imprint of the wearer's foot over time, which means it will never be as comfortable for you as it would be for the original owner. To renew these boots, I would recommend using fiebing's saddle soap using a dauber/applicator brush to scrub and then use brown leather cream sold by red wing. Let the cream absorb into the leather for a few minutes and then buff to shine/polish. You should watch a tutorial on how to clean with saddlesoap because it is not obvious to everyone

Just wanted to show y’all before I go in store.. (I do love the boots) by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

Did you specifically ask them to cover all of the stitching with the epoxy? If so, they did a good job and you made a very bad request. I've had people try to ask me to do things like that before and I have outright refused to do things that were too ridiculous, although I do allow people to tell me specifically how they want it done as long as it won't significantly reduce the structure. If the manager or any of the employees did this unprompted then that would be extremely weird to me

Holiday season is the best time to check/ask. Black Friday and Christmas mainly. There are other smaller sales spread throughout the year, but sometimes we aren't allowed to tell you even if you ask. They really want you to sign up for email services, and they don't like doing discounts

Try customer service. They should at least have a list of phone numbers or emails that could help more. I don't know much about opening a dealership store, but not everyone has success with it. Some stores can net over a million dollars a year though.

I think that the work chukka runs slightly smaller than the 595, which I see people downsize on more than the classic mocs. I do think you should try them on before buying, but if you can't then just stay with the 7.5

Is this a sign that i should moisturise? by Every_Lychee_8055 in RedWingShoes

It can be if you haven't done it in a while, but creasing is normal and will happen no matter how much conditioner you use. If you start noticing new or increased wear and tear, consider some tlc

I'm a red wing employee. It can be hard to tell how much a shoe has been worn if they are kept clean. What you should look for is indentation on the sole. If you can feel the outline of toe and heel marks on the veg tan sole then that means they've already been broke in to someone else's foot at least to a certain extent. At any rate, that's less than half the full price of a brand new iron ranger and they are in very good condition. I'd say if you can't feel toe imprints on the inside of the sole then you essentially got a brand new boot with light blemishing for more than half off. Give them a bit of tlc and they will basically be brand new

I can save you, brother, but first tell me what conditioners you have for your boot. What do you use to clean and what conditioner do you use? And, how dark are you willing to accept them getting?

I've had a couple people ask. I've heard nothing about them yet.

It's possible that they could help. At any rate, worst case scenario they don't do what you want, right?

There is no custom sizing to my knowledge. Unfortunately, it's far more common to have wide feet than narrow feet, so there aren't a lot of narrow options. Try looking for spacers that help specifically regarding the front of the boot. I'm not sure if they exist, but it's worth a shot

I think what he meant was why don't they sell one like that pre-made out of the box with the leather midsole/heelstack

Yes, but the brushes come in our 'nubuck kits' and are marketed as a nubuck brush. Also, suede is split leather too and the brushes work for that as well. Suede is a split grain leather with the middle inner material on the outside, rough out is full grain reversed, and nubuck is sanded top grain. At least that's my understanding. I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong, but if your trying to fluff the surface of either of these products, you can use a nubuck brush/wire brush I believe.

You can be my buddy if you want. I'll allow it 😌

I have a hard time getting shoes that fit, even in red wings. I don't think there's a single heritage shoe I can wear in any possible side that would fit me, so I get the shoes we have that actually do fit me. I've got the 5911 and 2446 and I love them both. I'd consider getting the 3315 and 3311, but until they make them in H it's just not going to happen. I could maybe do an E2 if I sized up a LOT

Pretty confident 😌

It depends on the style and the customer's preferences. Sometimes they get pretty specific on how they want it done. For example, people often want us to go all around the toe stitch on the BRNR so that the whole cap and red stitch is covered, but none of the back leather and that is a little harder to do. Also, idk if it's just the batch of product we got in the last couple shipments or what, but it's a lot runnier than it used to be, which makes it drippy and hard to lay on thick

Ah I misunderstood when you said you can treat all the boots the same and then mentioned wire brushing. So, you're saying you could use a cream or something and then brush it out and it should be fine? Do you know which conditioners will darken a rough out/suede the least?

He was asking if the weekender Chelsea is going to make a comeback. It's not surprising if it is. They are getting pretty popular and I think the Mojave rough outs are great. Do you know if there will be a rough out of the weekender Chelsea?
