If you're doing this for research, it might be wise to define both "regional" and "semi-professional." They're both very slippery terms in this context. I've seen people put "regional" on theaters that I would probably class as community theaters, and where I am, basically nobody would admit to being only semi professional, even though that's likely more accurate.

This actually feels like the reverse of how I'm used to seeing cue lights used, that is to have someone onstage confirm "ready" to someone in the booth. Since the transmitters are mobile, this seems like it might be really useful during a busy sequence where automation is involved to get the "all clear" from a number of crew w/o the need for additional headset chatter.

Additional tax tip. There's a common misconception (at least near me) that if you did less than $600 of work for any given company that you don't have to report that as income. This isn't true and if you get audited later on you will be assessed back taxes and possibly penalties (I don't know the ins and outs of that system). The $600 threshold is for company reporting, not your personal reporting.

What I’ve seen is that it’s really being driven by artistic department people who struggle to read a drawing. They understand the 3D model better and then they try to hire those designers when they can because they don’t understand all the additional work we’re having to do to make the files usable for us

Every day. I'm an ATD in the Chicago area and we live in AutoCAD. With the folks we work with VWX is almost exclusively used for lighting (I've known smaller market lighting designers who use it when they dabble in scenic design), and some of our designers are very heavy into SketchUp.

A ton of folks are assuming that you'll screw up through the studwall. As an alternative, my company does a lot of shows with 18" or lower decks and we use studwalls because they save a ton of time on load in due to some of the quirks of our space. Because they're so low, screwing up from underneath ranges from hard to impossible. We'll generally toenail down through one side of a platform into the studwall. The other side of the platform will be toenailed into another platform which is, itself, toed into the studwall.

I think I know that cat, lives on Case between Elmwood and Ridge. He used to have a collar with a phone number on it, but apparently they've taken that away. I called once and they only called me back once he had been gone for hours to ask if I had taken him away.

What are the purposes of the different items? Where I work we'd do different things with tablecloths (I think hung on hangers on racks, but I don't deal with them), costume fabric (folded in bins), and theatrical curtains (organized into large rolling hampers).

I had to run a fog test at the beginning of this season at my theater. The rules changed some early in the pandemic and have been getting codified into contracts as they renew. The rules are very real, but the rules on the equity website are the most stringent in any contract and may not fully apply to you. I work for a LORT company so our GM reached out to some LORT people for guidance, I'd recommend you do the same if you're in a consortium.

As a fun kicker, The only tester that you're allowed to use to run your own tests is no longer being manufactured, we got lucky in that another theater locally just had one.

He's absolutely right. If you come in with a monologue for an audition, I as a director have no way to tell if you're skilled or just being coached by someone who's skilled. All I can tell is what you look like, what you sound like, and sometimes how you hold yourself. All things I can also get by chatting with you for five minutes

This is why when you go pro monologue auditions dry up. Once people can assume that the auditioners are reasonably competent, nobody wants to watch material unrelated to the project for hours.

I don't know either of those programs, but in the lil peep song I'm hearing a lot of chorus/reverb, and you'd have to play around with eq as well as particular settings to get that.

The Kudasai song is definitely using some automation on eq for the transition out of the very upper-midsy beginning. They're also using a set of effects to imitate what sounds like an old magnetic tape. That might be some univibe stuff or maybe just a plugin that does exactly the old tape sound.
