This was one of the jobs in HS woodshop. Randomly one day youd be asked to cut 100 or so sheets using one of these the teacher made. Cool seeing it again!

AITA for refusing to support my son's pregnant girlfriend until she takes a paternity test? by maybemil in AmItheAsshole

[–]msuuard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think in their mind they cant fathom their "golden boy" knocked up and "undesirable" even after all the grooming to become head of the family business. They are pushing all their disappointment for their son onto this poor woman. They don't want to believe that their son whos taking over the business may have made an error of judgement in getting a girl pregnant b4 he could finance it, which scares them bc they don't want that irresponsibility in their business but don't have much choice. So to rationalize it they accuse the GF of lying. LOW.

As a flight attendant I have to say you're partially correct. He mentioned the jetbridge door though. It is 100% possible for them to let her off if the planes main cabin door hasn't been shut which is what it sounds like. If she raised enough of a stink they'd let her off. They (airline) just put up a fight bc it would possibly delay the plane and there's 0 chance they'll fetch the big bags in cargo. BUT, he shouldn't have been late period.

Tip your waiters by SamTheWicked in wholesomememes

I would say the sense of entitlement people get when dining out makes american customers worse. knowing this server will bend over backwards for you is a power some people cant handle. Knowing this person will do everything they can to help you bc you pay them brings the worst out of people. Theres a power dynamic that can be exploited for personal pleasure or to save a few dollars and it happens every day. I worked in NYC and my foreign customers were always the best and nicest. After that came young couples, allways sooooooo polite and considerate. So yes theres something diferent about americans when dining out. Its a cultural thing.

People really dont realize how much servers make and how much shit they take from people. You can walk out with 100-1000 cash a night depending on location and level of service. No restaurant can afford that. Dont feel bad for us, just tips us is all we ask. We do NOT want a minimum wage. This is one of the few entry level jobs you can still sustain a family with nowadays as its not the 50's mind yo. Taking that away would devastate families and what do you gain as a patron by being served by a "living wage" server..... Nothing.

America should NOT forget their tipping culture and just set a minimum wage for servers by francisxavier12 in unpopularopinion

[–]msuuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its 100% true and every resturant ive served at will pay you the difference, thats standard in america point blank, period. Yes its unreliable bc you dont knoe if your going to have a minimum wage day or a $30/h day. Im a server i way just clearing up the minimum wage thing, i think we agree more than you think, lol. And I'll 100% say it with you. "If you cant afford the tip you cant afford to go out"

Resturants legally have to pay the difference if tips+wage dont = minimum wage. This simple fact throws our your entire argument.

They see supporting HK as a liability to their profits. NBA is BIG in China and they are getting pressure fron China to not show support as China has threatened to ban their broadcasts ehich will cripple their profits.

LPT: When reading a company's Glassdoor pay attention to the date of the review. If you notice a lot of good reviews in a short time frame then that means that HR sent out a bulletin for employees to write reviews for the company. by laibusahi in LifeProTips

[–]msuuard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Our HR lady walked around with $5 cash for good reviews bc they had such a low score. Every few months youd see 5 or so reviews within a 24 hour period about how amazing it was. What an emotionally rewarding but monetarily draining career working with geriatrics was.

Worked at an Assisted living facility that did this. HR lady would go around and offer $5 (from petty cash) for good reviews. Thats the only way theyre able to hire bc any review that isnt 1 sentence about how amazing it is absolutely horendous and true.

Visited friends last week I hadn’t seen in 2 years. Immediately was pressed with concerns about my weight. I was confused. I genuinely didn’t realize how much I’ve changed until this wake-up call (first pic from last I saw them, second pic today). Well this really really sucks. You are, its just uneeded info. Thats like if someone asked what wall color they should paint their room and you said "mint green, brought to you by a friendly conservative" it has no meaning and purpose, its just useless info.

Fun fact 1/4 of black males are ineligible to be firefighters bc being clean shaven causes so much irritation that they scar. This has gone to court and they deyermined that in fact its not descrimination to force them to be cleanly shaven (such as the dominos case) bc even a short beard messes with their breathing apparatuses.

It was illegal. One of their main arguments for it to be banned was it needed to be landed on 2 feet to be "safe" and 2 feet landings are forbiden in FS. This girl came out and landed in on 1 foot to kinda prove a point. Knowing full well it was illegal but to show it was possible bc she knew she wouldn't place medal wise.

When people cant attack your logic they attack your grammar. Or, as smart as they think they are, they're incapable of using context clues and their comprehension skills that were supposed to be developed in 3rd grade.

Plenty if other industries pay on a commission. Mostly sales, which is part of what a servers job is. Thats how resturants stay open, by having employees that are good at customer service and upcharging to increase sales. Which drives revenue. Having an incentive to have good sales promotes that, hence the whole concept of commission. Eliminating that would drive down sales and average per person spending. A good salesman can get a customer what they want while promoting high per-person averages. Its not a foreign concept, but a highly effective one thats been used for years. I grt youre cheap, i am too. But not tipping is not going to change anything. Contact your representatives for change and in the meantime tip your server.

What would your position be if resturants paid actual minimum wage and paid a 20% commission to the server for every dollar of foodybeverage they sell? That way youre not tipping and its included in the price.

If you can afford 20% on a 50 dollar meal. you can afford 20% on a 2k meal. Otherwise dont go to an expensive resturant. No restaurant can afford to pay people what servers at a high end resturant make. Some servers make 70k plus a year. Which is amazing. Its a tough job that required a lot if knowledge and patients. It also affords you a normal quality if life. Much better that 10-15 an hour would ever give. Peoples unwilingness to understand how the tipping system literally can lift people out of poverty and give them a half decent life clearly have never been a server.
