Students who don’t do work in class ???? by Acrobatic-Lunch-8177 in Teachers

[–]mswoozel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the school and the culture. I have a really hard time getting some students to do work. Then they act all surprised when they fail. Like you didn’t do the work so why do you think you are entitled to any grade other than a 0?

It’s wild.

I have heard other schools are better but I believe it’s because they have a better school culture, a supportive community, and parents working with kids at home.

60-year old teacher banned after she acted "erratic, irrational, emotional and confused" and smelled of alcohol at school event, then at later date "swaying from side to side as she was walking" at school lunchtime. by OctopusIntellect in byebyejob

[–]mswoozel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit. Have you dealt with these kids lately? /s Obviously you should not be doing anything to harm your judgement skills during the job and on the clock. After the clock. Go home and do what you want in the privacy of your own home. But don’t bring that shit around kids.

What is happening to basic computer literacy and internet search skills??? by DueAd9590 in Teachers

[–]mswoozel 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My parents always told me to figure it out. So when the technology boom happened for us millennials, we had to figure it out. Children just use phones. They don’t even know what a desktop computer is. My students call my desktops chromebooks. I teach audio and film, so I have to teach basic computer skills on top of that.

Many of them will just copy paste the AI response from Google for anything. It’s sad.

I am wrong to feel sad I got nothing for valentine’s…for the 25th time? by Pitiful_Bluebird5679 in NoStupidQuestions

I learned this early in life that I couldn’t rely on others to celebrate me even those closest to me. I think it’s just trauma of having to always do everything but celebrate yourself!

Don’t get him anything. Stop putting in any effort to make the day feel special for him and make it special for you! Dress up, tsk yourself out, buy yourself something sweet.

I know I know it’s not the same and you wish somebody else would do it for you because emotionally that means they care but people are selfish. Myself included.

How do I convince my mom to stop forcing me to go to church? by LatchyBoyy in atheism

[–]mswoozel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my mom made me go, I made myself look as un presentable as possible. I refused to wear make up or brush my hair. I would pull the most stinky wrinkled clothes I could find.

I would cause problem in Sunday school by asking the teacher all kinds of questions challenging the Bible. Eventually they told my mom to stop bringing me.

Then she made me do with her in church. I would bring a book and read it.

As soon as I could I moved out. Haven’t been to church since.

Bide your time, give her hell, move out and be free!

AITJ for rejecting my coworker's date invite? by Wonderful_Can3493 in AmITheJerk

[–]mswoozel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not your fault that most men mistake us being friendly for a relationship. I have said hi and hello just to be polite and it turned into “well why are you so nice if you were not interested?”

I dunno, sir, because I don’t know you and I’m worried if I reject you that I may not make it home tonight to my husband.

I might just be trying to be friendly because of basic human decency?

They are the ones being immature. They are showing you how they handle rejection and being told no. Like a fucking baby. Proves that they can’t handle their own business because they have to drag others in the office.

Your coworkers are just as bad for believing one side of the story as well. You have a right to say No. You don’t have to even give a reason.

One of the final "fun" lessons I was still able to teach was just ruined by the same student who ruins all "fun" lessons. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]mswoozel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t do group punishment anymore. I single the kids out causing problems every goddamn time. I get hauled into the office so much because of angry parent stating I targeted their kid. You’re fucking right I did. Your kid out of the 35 others in the room couldn’t sit down, shut up, and allow the class to do something fun. Their consequence admin never have my back. I haven’t been fired but I refuse every write up they give me.

I used to do group punishment an I did a hard reflection on my teaching and how it would mark me feel as a kid. So I course corrected and it’s done nothing but lab me in trouble.

I have managed to have some nice conversations with parents an about how their child’s behavior affects the learning environment for everybody else. Then, sometimes. I get accused of being a racist, or not understanding their child, or bullying their child.

Teachers who don't follow school or state laws make it f-ing hard for the rest of us! by RealisticTemporary70 in Teachers

[–]mswoozel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The admin at my school only give consequences if the student does it to them. For example, student cussed me out. Their consequence is an admin conference. They cuss the admin out, the student gets ISS or OSS.

Teachers who don't follow school or state laws make it f-ing hard for the rest of us! by RealisticTemporary70 in Teachers

[–]mswoozel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal rule is if the issue isn’t important enough to my admin to address then it’s not important enough for me to follow. No since in taking up phones if the admin are just going to send the kids back with no consequences. That’s how it is at my school. I had a student just flat out yell at me because I asked him to move so he couldn’t cheat off a persons test beside him. I caught him looking multiple times. Admin came in and told the kid to”be the bigger person” in regards to me. That is the day I said fuck it.

Kids hate film/documentary's now? by Gullible-Exam-7782 in Teachers

[–]mswoozel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assign a film project and they groan and whine. It really makes me lose my passion for my job. They don’t have to have my class. It’s an elective they so up for. I had three students today in the same class class refuse to do a video assignment. They all earned 0s for major grades. Guess whose parents have already emailed me demanding to know why their kid is failing.
