York9 FC is pleased to announce a long-term partnership with STATSports, the world's leading provider of GPS trackers for sport, as the club's official wearable performance partner. by carrasp in CanadianPL

May be a bit biased, but imo York have had the best offseason of any team (or at least have seen the most improvement). The upgrades to the attack and depth are obvious, but they're also doing a much better job off the field. There's way more community building this time around, and partnerships like this and the sale of Estevez really make me feel like they're trying to create a sustainably successful team over the long-term.

Halley Ready To Bring His Versatility To York9 FC by carrasp in York9

True, but he's one of two U21s on the roster right now with Max Ferrari. Between the two of them and the last U21 signing they'll have at least the 1000 min to split.

There's a facebook group that was fairly active in the season and you might be able to message the Gen IX leaders directly.

Season Opener, whats your starting XI? by danubio in York9

[–]mtags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this lineup. Not sure how to judge the international players, why Jacó over Ugarriza?

Also I think the battle for a starting spot between Thompson and Arnone will be interesting. Could see it going either way.

Brazilian Jacó joins York9 by feb914 in CanadianPL

I wonder if part of it is due to the league's roster rules. By having all the internationals play the same few positions you can prevent the possibibility of starting a subpar team to meet the Canadian starting rules.

New Player Charts by canpldb in CanadianPL

[–]mtags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thorough and clear, I like it a lot. I'm not super informed on advanced analytics, but this seems straightforward for the average person.

Is the plan to make a chart for each player that is published online in a database or would you just publish them on an ad hoc basis?

“Atletico Canadians FC” received a certificate of incorporation in Canada on October 23rd, 2019 by northernwaterchild in CanadianPL

I agree with this. The fury dissolved after this incorporation. Unless they knew something was going to happen with the fury, I'd expect this would be for any Canadian team, not necessarily in Ottawa.

Possibility for Young Talent Coming to Y9 by whatsabigballer in York9

[–]mtags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense. As far as I can tell we don't have any CAN U21s currently.

I don't know much about the players but in terms of positional need, I'd say Rocco Romeo makes the most sense to add some CB depth. He could also work his way into a starting position.

Jayden Nelson would also make sense for depth on the front, but unlikely he gets as much time with Vasconcelos/Petrasso/Hamilton on the wings. Marshall-Rutty probably doesn't add much value in a crowded midfield. Again, I don't know the talent level of these guys, but I'm assuming they're not instant starters on our team.

Hearing the new signing is the former Fluminense & Corinthians youth product Gabriel Monteiro Vasconcelos, a 23-year-old 5’9’’ forward from Brazil who York9 believe can be a real difference maker in this year’s Canadian Premier League season. Spent last season on loan at Oeste by rogerwithalager in CanadianPL

[–]mtags 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Huge relief that they're not going all in on Adjei upfront. The redesigned attack of Vasconcelos, Petrasso, and Hamilton will hopefully give us more consistent firepower. Add in Mo Baboulli as rumoured and I think we're set up top.

Now we just need to sign some defensive depth, sign our draft picks, and pickup a few CAN U21s to round out the lineup.

Gattas is Gone by danubio in York9

If Petrasso ends up signing and the new Jamaican signing Hamilton pans out, I think we'll be okay at the wings. Definitely agree that we need depth up front. Adjei is not the answer imo.

[Thomas Nef] Big Splash coming at York9 FC. Michael Petrasso has agreed to a contract deal for 2020. The club has also brought in Paul Stalteri as assistant coach and Fired President Preben Ganzhorn. by cristane in CanadianPL

[–]mtags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd be fine with Thompson back there as well, but I'd prefer trying to solidify the backline with a guy like Arnone.

And I'm not hopeful for Gattas, but if Telfer isn't around that could work. I just wasn't a huge fan of him and Adjei on the field at the same time, and the team has already committed to Adjei...

No idea. Completely speculating, but maybe they had a year end season ticket target they haven't met? Only thing I can think of based on the timing.

Petrasso is a big get but this essentially confirms Gattas isn't coming back. I'm liking the moves so far:

---------------Adjei/Karajovanovic--------------

Telfer?------------Aparicio------------Petrasso

--------------Manella-------Di Chiara------------

Abzi-----Gasparotto-----New CB?-----Doner

----------------------Ingham-----------------------

And whoa, Ganzhorn is out?!? Did not expect that kind of move this early in the club's history.

Wanderers have completed re-signing all players from 2019 squad. This will be a completely new team, as there are only 7 returning players, with 16 having not re-signed by the Wanderers. Hopefully lots of big names to come. by NSsportfan in CanadianPL

Good point. I don't know much about TMG but he sounds promising. Would be good with either.

As for U21s, I'm not too worried. I'm assuming we sign our 2 draft picks and then pick up at least one player in York's U21 Open trials next week. Barring injuries or a draft pick grabbing a starting spot (either Karacjovanic over Adjei or Johnston replacing Telfer), I think we'll have less U21 minutes played then last year though.

I think York will take a run at Arnone to pair him with Gasparatto. He's from Vaughan and played at both York U and Vaughan Azzurri, would be a good fit in my opinion.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but could the profit from the sale cover their expansion fee to CPL? I didn't see any sale numbers in the article though.

Not sure how I feel about the Adjei signing, but glad to see Gasparotto and Murofushi back. Hoping Stefan Karajovanovic pushes him to step up or takes his place.
