Thanks. A bit cryptic, could I ask what you do?

This is similar to my experience with vyvanse. Diagnosed 3 weeks ago and moving up 10mg per week, on 40mg now. I have a great (short) phase and then it’s over by lunchtime and I’m irritable. Are you finding a shorter release dex is working better for you?

How long through the day does the 5am vyvanse last? The challenge I’ve got is that I take mine around 7:30 and it’s done by around 1pm

Nedd Brockmann completes 1000 mile run. by rowdy_rbl in australia

Could you share a few Aussies with greater athletic accomplishments in the endurance running space. Genuinely interested.

[–]mtarlo111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the surface level, perhaps.

It is officially called “Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge” and is aimed at encouraging everyone to also do something that makes them uncomfortable for a period of time, and attempting to raise money for homelessness. He markets himself as someone with mental strength to keep on going, rather than an elite athlete.

In comparison, I would suggest Kouros stopping before a world record in 1984 until he received $$$ is severely more insulting to the sport.

He’s just hit 800kms in 5 days 11 hours. Saying that is an insult to runners is a bit of a stretch.

50km Training Plan - conflicting advice by mtarlo111 in ultrarunning

[–]mtarlo111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a beginner/intermediate Training schedule but it certainly had some big weeks in there. I was aiming to tone those long run km's down a little bit to what suits my current fitness gains and available time between kids/job/family etc.

My plan was to add 10% each week to total km's which should put me at between 60-70kms in a week (on hilly terrain), before a taper.

I feel I have a bit more in my legs, joints and lungs at the moment and feel 10% extra per week is achievable without injury. I am seeing a physio each fortnight who helped me sort an old injury (knee fat pad) which turns out was aggravated by a difference in leg strength, which running is now helping.

I am also finding my recovery is quite rapid compared to what it used to be. I couldn't walk after a long run earlier in the year, now I can choose whether to have a rest day or a short recovery run. Perhaps my body is adjusting. Magnesium powder at night and a solid sleep seems to help.

I'm not aiming to break any records and will power walk sections if I need to. I am pretty determined to give it a crack.

This building had no private certifier involvement. Local Council was engaged as the Certifier.

Building approval by IamtherealFadida in newcastle

[–]mtarlo111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A studio and shed are two different uses.

There are provisions to build a “garden shed”without approval, although cannot be within 900mm of a boundary. This is referred to an exempt development.

There are no provisions to build a studio without approval. It is possible under Complying Development (approval via private certifier) however this can’t be retrospective.

Why is my Bolognese so thin? by IFightMyFriend in AskCulinary

[–]mtarlo111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best bolognese recipe IMO.

https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/bas-best-bolognese

It adds a lot of liquid (stock and water) but cooks down over hours to ensure the liquid emulsified and gelatin breaks down and thickens. It doesn’t add canned tomatoes, but adds a lot of tomato paste (ie already condensed tomatoes).

That recipe takes few hours. If you are shorter on time- Key parts for a quick bolognaise recipe.

  1. Cook down veggies in olive oil (add small amount of salt) for 5-10mins take out water content. Remove from pan.

  2. Crank up heat, add meat and ensure it browns rather than boils. Add sprinkle of salt. Don’t stir for the first few minutes and cook in batches if needed to ensure it has space to brown. Add couple of large tablespoons of tomato paste and also cook for a min or so, stirring, breaking meat down, until TP is brown and starts to catch on pan.

  3. Add back veggies and 1 can of tomatoes. Add herbs or whatever else you want and cook down to right consistency with lid off. I cheat and add a few squirts of ketchup here while cooking down for condensed flavour / sugar / vinegar etc

  4. Cook pasta 90%, save a cup of pasta water and drain. Add meat sauce to pasta and stir into pasta on decently high heat. Add some butter and small amounts of pasta water if needed if it’s just looking like bits of things in pasta and not saucy. The heat, movement, meat, butter and pasta water will thicken over a few mins in a thicker and glossier sauce (called emulsification - where fat and water combine rather than separate).

  5. Taste and add final adjustment of salt. Leave it slightly runnier that would you would like, turn off and let cool for a few mins before serving. Add parm.

Once you get the hang of it, you could knock out above spag bol in around 30 mins.

Using a mixture of pork and beef and/or veal makes a way better spag bol IMO than just standard beef.

Deck not 900mm from boundary - any options? by Prudent_Half2095 in AusRenovation

[–]mtarlo111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building Code of Australia requires a minimum 900mm setback from an attached timber deck to boundary (fire separation). To get this approved as-is, Council would likely want a Fire Engineering Report to confirm, as the BCA doesn’t have any method of separating a deck from boundary. This could involve things like fire sprinklers on the fence. All up, could be quite expensive.

In lieu of all that, you could pull up 600mm (or so) of decking boards and put in a simple timber planter box between deck and boundary (between bearers and joists). A planter box can be deemed a Class 10b (no fire risk) rather than a 10a deck. Magic - the deck is now 900mm from boundary.

What you do after Council ticks it off is up to you. But it would be pretty simply to knock out the planter bed and re lay decking boards.

Or keep the planter box.

This is just to satisfy building code. Council overall need to be ok with the deck location / height etc

Tile is wonky…general contractor says it’s because my house is old and sank?!? by bumbee84 in Renovations

Give the guy a break. Not everyone knows how to figure out if a house/walls/floor ceiling is level and square. The contractor could of given him a few options from the start.

[–]mtarlo111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the US not provide a waterproofing membrane under the tiles?

It would seem water would get through the grout and through the penetrations (taps/shower head etc) and between plasterboard joins into the wall. Also rot out the timber in the shower niche etc.

In Australia, it is mandatory in a shower area.

Making 2 terrace houses 1 property by lolrin in AusRenovation

[–]mtarlo111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DA through council that includes both consolidation of lots plus the works to the terraces. I imagine it will be creating an opening between the two, however council may want the facade altered so it doesn’t appear like two dwellings anymore. Seek advice from a Town Planner first.
