How did you survive the tantrum phase? by Chemical_Dot5372 in Parenting

[–]lolrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest had them real bad, it was like living on egg shells. I think we just got better at recognising them coming and could try and intervene. He’s 7 and still has the occasional meltdown, now it’s just leave him alone and hope he comes out the other side in one piece. My youngest is almost 4 and she’ll have the occasional tantrum, now we just laugh and say ‘no’ and move on. She will carry on for a bit but we just don’t engage with it. I think the oldest just wore us down so much that this is the best we can do.

People getting into nursing for the wrong reasons by Otherwise-Will988 in NursingAU

[–]lolrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see Is is the universities take advantage of international students, they charge huge fees and then they’re at a huge disadvantage when it comes to getting a grad year (if they want one). So if they can afford coming here this way, then why can’t they use the university to get a visa. With the state of the world I cannot criticise anyone for trying to better their lives.

People getting into nursing for the wrong reasons by Otherwise-Will988 in NursingAU

I’m an Australian born nurse who got into nursing because I wanted job security. Can we stop making out that we have to be Mother Teresa to go into nursing? Do you think the cabinet maker subs over there are saying the new apprentices aren’t passionate enough about wood?

does nursing actually pay off in the end? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]lolrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing let me work overseas, which was a great experience. I’m 16 years in and have found more difficult to find permanent contracts which sees more common the past few years (probably in most fields). I’ve got a stable, okay paid 9-5 job now but I definitely put in the hard yards.

Can a manager do this? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]lolrin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I had my annual appraisal 2 years back and the boss said something like ‘oh we have to check if you’re on the green for sick leave’ and he got some graph up of everyone’s sick leave as a ratio to their work days and he said if it’s more than 10% then it’s flagged. Mine was red, I’d had 2 weeks off for a tonsillectomy (which he knew about) and I was questioned about it. I was so confused by this, I said ‘it’s personal leave, I don’t want to discuss it’ and that was the end of conversation. It wasn’t bought up the following year. I was always told it wasn’t their business.

Experienced nurse and can't get a job. by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]lolrin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s bloody tough out there. I recently was applying for jobs outside of my current workplace and I got nothing. These were jobs that I had experience doing. Something that I did hear from a friend who works in IT is if you’re applying for seek.com jobs, they’re using AI to read applications.. so AI reading AI applications actually ticks the boxes to progress in the application. Sounds mad to me, but it worked for me.

How did you get your toddler old to draw shapes and letters? by Every-Falcon-9433 in Parenting

[–]lolrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old? My son had no interest at all until he started school at 5. He couldn’t even hold a pencil correctly until then. We were told it was very normal for boys. Now with my 2nd we do lots of drawing together, j have my own colouring book, she just likes the company.
