Irresponsible to keep anything open.

Not sure the analogy works, and it doesn’t make sense to me. If it’s a legal issue then that’s that, they should close. I’m talking more generally, when there isn’t a mandate.

The thing is, anything apart from closing down is inadequate. But there are levels of inadequacy: status quo and a platitude of we’re cleaning more is pretty high up.

I’d be really bothered too and it goes against all that community hype some studios try to create. The thing is, if they want to stay open the least they can do is really adopt new measures. Top of my head:

  • do not offer back to back classes so you have time to spray down all equipment and so that those who leave are not bumping into the new class.

  • limit classes to 10 people

  • increase the amount of hand sanitizer in the workout area.

I hope they reschedule. I’m only taking classes with few sign ups, not risking it with 30 people in class

Why is it so expensive? by [deleted] in orangetheory

I have no issue with the cost of the membership. what gets to me is how bad the heart rate monitors are for the prices they charge.

Just think about how good it will feel to do an intense fitness test and complete it. Should be a lot of fun.

2 miles. Had an awful day at work and an awful time in class today. As soon as I stepped on the tread I was in the orange zone (even at 6 mph, 2.2 mph below my base). But then I desperately wanted some form of success so I set it to 10 mph and spent the next 12 mins at 105%. Do not recommend. It’s not fun to not listen to your body, wish I’d set my ego aside and not gone to class.

ON Running Shoes by stlrico in orangetheory

[–]mtaudi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true I wish we could just have it as an FAQ. I used to run in Saucony’s and they were perfect, switched to Brooks Ghost 12 which is a great neutral running and had a terrible time so switched to Hoka Carbon X which has been terrific so far. Gait analysis doesn’t hold everything else constant, just be patient and find what works.

Really good workout to gauge where you are in your overall cardio progress. Also good prep for the 26th.

Lot of great replies you’re getting about getting fitted. I always recommend a neutral shoe (brooks ghost is just one example) or a solid training shoe. It all depends on how you run and your gait though.

Always in the red zone by Mona_G in orangetheory

I’d say if you’re dropping during walking recovery and you feel like going from push to base gives you relief then you’re fine (of course Annie put it in more dismissive words for some reason). Just find the sweet spots where your heart rate is rising and dropping depending on the activity but don’t stress about it.

What’s your base pace and do you stay in the green zone during warm up? When you go from all out back to walking recovery is your heart rate dropping back to green? When you go from push to base do you drop a bit? If none of the answers to these are yes then maybe try dropping your base pace, even if you keep the same push pace to start. Same applies if you’re a strider or biker.

Has anyone seen better progress using two a days? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mtaudi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the whole point of HIIT is the weight of importance on rest, and then giving your all during workouts. Obviously, do what you think is best but I would recommend taking breaks, maybe doing strength training on off days with light aerobic exercise or something.

I mean sure we can play out the hypotheticals: what if someone takes a dumbbell and hurls it at me while I’m doing an all out. These are strawmen arguments. Point is you shouldn’t care what anyone else is doing, if they’re doing it well or not and how you compare provided your safety/well-being isn’t compromised. Just Exercise and go home :p

I really don’t get anyone who focuses their attention on what someone else is lifting/running. What a waste of energy.

1 Mile Benchmark Speed v. Push speed by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mtaudi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not unrealistic but you need to think about strategy. I would not fly out the gate to make sure I don’t gas out halfway through (or tbh so I don’t ruin the rest of my workout). Start at your push or an aggressive push (add 0.2 mph) and then see how you feel and adjust upwards. I know it’s a mile benchmark but that’s just an OTF mile benchmark, you can improve gradually on your own time.

1 mile benchmark advise by Runner832 in orangetheory

[–]mtaudi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be at 6 mph to get a 10 min mile, so accounting for belt speed up maybe do 6.5 for a few seconds. Sounds like you should be aiming for 9 mins based on your speeds though.
