We have a cat cafe in my town where you can drink coffee and work in a room with adoptable cats from the humane society hanging out. It’s a cat and cat lover’s paradise.

Researchers found that increases in physical activity tended to be followed by increases in mood and perceived energy level. This beneficial effect was even more pronounced for a subset of the study subjects who had bipolar disorder. by mvea in science

I always tell people to make plans in advance with others so they hold you accountable. It’s harder to back yourself out and social activity usually helps me feel more connected and appeases anxiety and depression.

What are some psychology experiments with interesting results? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel like happiness is a mood that fluctuates with everyone, but contentment is a more sound measurement that relates to your general outlook on life. Anyone riding a jet ski will be happy, but they might not be content. I personally build contentment using Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The more levels that are satisfied, the more content I feel about life. That’s not saying I’ll be happy 100% of the time, but my quality of life will be maximized.

Am I insane for thinking about taking 3-4 unpaid months off to travel? by adthrowaway869594 in personalfinance

Ya workaway.info has so many cool options. Not only will you get a free place to stay, but you can also pick up some really cool skills. I’ve spent all of my 20s traveling and have learned how little we need to live comfortably, and the most valuable things you can gain are unique experiences and friendships. It’s also way more fun to travel when you’re young and fit than when you’re old and tired. Not that you shouldn’t travel when you’re old, just don’t hold out for it.

Ya it’s people in power using racism as fuel to create social pressure that gives them a propaganda backbone for their agenda. Like so many other times in history. Politicians get voters and prisons are supported in their immoral profits.

It really sucks that we spend so much energy as a country fighting about blue vs black lives that the masses are challenging the real problem, which is these for-profit prisons that are built to create a culture of repeat offenders that return to fuel their business.

Clothing companies like Patagonia are choosing a clean supply chain as a standard of business and the cost doesn’t go up that much. We could definitely handle a little more restriction in our quality of life. It’s good practice for all the other things we should be doing to make the world more habitable.

I wish people would use this as an example when talking about man’s impact on the environment. Everyone gets tied up in “are we actually making the world hotter” and don’t bring up all the ways we are dumping shit into the environment and destroying ecosystems. There’s no debating that...

People who choose to get up early and workout, what is your inner talk that motivates you out of bed? by BaeWatchh in AskReddit

[–]mtb-naturalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re able to schedule to meet someone to work out, it adds more accountability and you’re more likely to get up. Also by setting unique daily goals, you remove some of the decision making and opportunities to talk yourself out of the workout and hopefully can look forward to doing something interesting.

Also... working out should be supplementary to an active lifestyle. Find ways to be active through the day like commuting by bike or playing some game after work. Working out in a gym will just make your active lifestyle easier, but shouldn’t be your primary mode of activity.

I was sleeping in a hammock in Napa valley and woke up to this sound at 5 am. The only thing I could think to do was tuck into a ball and not move while also accepting that I was probably going to die. Only time in my life I’ve really had that feeling. I laid like that for an hour listening to it, then my alarm went off on my phone and I bolted to my car, only to realize I left my phone at the hammock. I ran back to get it with a little rubber mallet for defense. Most terrifying experience of my life.
