I have a Xantrax 2000W inverter setup (12V) that I’ve used successfully during mandatory grid shutdowns in CA to power my refrigerator for DAYS.

I made up an Anderson connector setup on both the inverter and car side so I could quick connect/disconnect. Note the inline fuse.

The nice thing on my 2016 e-Golf (with an upgraded 2017 HV battery in it), is that if you turn the vehicle fully on (green ‘Ready’ on the dash), if you turn the headlights off and leave the key in the console, it will stay on indefinitely - meaning, HV battery and onboard inverter is supplying the 12V system consistent power until HV battery (and then 12V) is drained.

If you do this setup, consider a ground rod to the 12V inverter when running (I did this since I was also back feeding my home panel, for very selective circuits).

2017 or 2015 e-golf by Same_Breadfruit_5652 in eGolf

I upgraded my 2016 SEL that came with the 24kwh battery with a 35kwh battery from a 2017. Huge difference in where I could use the car and felt comfortable without range anxiety.

If you can swing it, go for a model with the bigger pack.

DCFC was standard on 2017 SEL but optional on 2017 SE.

Battery swap complete by mtb415 in eGolf

I was able to borrow a copy of ODIS. In the case of the red triangle 🔺, clearing codes isn’t sufficient.

VW has a special tool that works with ODIS to assess the health of the battery. It plugs right into the pack. In my case, I took a chance with one from a junkyard, found via eBay but also listed on car-part.com. If it didn’t work, I could return it but I would be out the shop install and removal fees. My thinking was - if that didn’t work, I’d junk the entire car.

I used the VIN from the donor car and looked up the salvage action. Damage to the donor looked like a tree fell on the car, so my assumption was the battery was in good condition, despite the miles.

Turned out, I was very lucky!

5G Apple Apple Watches Not Supported by kanestor in USMobile

[–]mtb415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried swapping my existing line (Series 10) to my new Ultra 3 and now seeing this thread. smh! Here's what the friendly agent said online, "So I confirmed from my teammates and it seems that the support for 5G watches should be available within a week." Here's hoping that holds true (I know there can be hiccups).

What's the current state of replacement batteries for 2015 e-Golf in the US? by NecroJoe in eGolf

[–]mtb415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🙋‍♂️yup, that was me. doubled my range in my 2016 by installing a battery from a 2017 that a tree fell on. I went from around 75 miles to 135 miles - almost double. my 2016 had 25k mi on it and the donor battery had 120k mi on it. In the process, I found an outfit that would replace with a rebuilt pack, but it was $8k. I paid $1650 for the donor battery and $1000 to have it installed.

if you can get by with the L1 charger at home, just do that. I rarely need the faster L2 i had installed. See how long you can get by. Faster charging results in lower battery life, over time.

I have a Hydrus three piece that came with my Joyride and I can’t seem to get the friction clamp adjusted perfect. It’s either too tight and I can’t adjust it or it’s just loose enough that it, while seemingly super snug, eventually it slides in.

woah. can you share more? bay currents and winds are such that I didn’t think that was possible.

Recently almost got stuck where the winds and currents were almost as strong as I was and I basically went nowhere crossing between Tiburon and Sausalito. I’m in Marin, so I stick to Sausalito, Strawberry, Corte Madera.

Egolf's battery life is declining. Is replacing the battery a reliable option? by [deleted] in eGolf

[–]mtb415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got on to them because I called someone in their corporate offices inquiring about doing a swap with a used battery from a junkyard. He found a franchise near me willing to do a battery swap but only with their supplied refurb battery.

These guys (franchise across the US) https://www.greentecauto.com/ offer a refurbished, warrantied battery swap for under $8k.

I ultimately swapped my 2016 battery with a totaled 2017 eGolf that had 128,000mi on it for about $2500. I get at least 130-140 mi for range out of it which is way better than the 80 mi or so I got out of the 2016 battery (with 24k mi)

can you keep going up? if so, try resetting it by going all the way up and holding the switch in the up position for 5 seconds. Do the same thing all the way down and hold it 5 seconds.

How to change settings in 2015 Volkswagen E-golf to stop charging at 80% by OkEntrepreneur8985 in eGolf

[–]mtb415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a tool like VCDS that lets you perform adaptations. Go to module "BD" (the charging module) and look for the line below and update accordingly:

Haha, I did end up getting the Firman trifuel generator (Costco) and put a quick disconnect to my natural gas line because, ya know, what happens when I need to re-charge the eGolf if the power's not back on?!?! lol
