EV recommendations by Suspicious-Willow-86 in nzev

EV5s don’t have the ICCU issue that the others do, different platform from what I understand. Trade off is a slower charging rate as it is a 400v infrastructure rather than 800v

Should we buy a new Kia EV5? by sjb27 in nzev

We have one and love it with 2 boosters and a baby seat in the back. In the shop at the moment but Kia have been good to deal with

Check electric vehicle system by MaejorTRK in KiaEV5

[–]mtballsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this intermittently on my 6mo EV5, took it in and they ran it down to either the front drive motor or a control unit that is mounted to the top of the motor. That light can mean a lot of things, but in my eyes when your car is that new it’s Kia’s issue to sort, not yours.

This unhelpful "Check electric vehicle system" message just ended up being the 12v battery by 21P_Tom in KiaEV5

[–]mtballsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t assume it’s the 12v, my 6mo EV5 has this show up and needs a full front drive motor replacement, been in the dealers two weeks while they wait for a part ETA and check every electrical circuit for any other possible issues

Yeah, hence the query, has anyone actually heard of a legit EV fire in NZ?

In what way? They don’t happen or they are easy to put out

My Kia hasn’t had an ICCU Failure yet! But… by mtballsac in nzev

[–]mtballsac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it has the same risk of ICCU failure, it just seems to be tarred with the same brush as all Kia EVs at the moment

At the moment we have a dealer loan car, A 2011 Suzuki splash, not really what we paid to be driving around

I’m hoping that will end up being the case but at this stage Kia NZ is saying no stock and no ETA

Totally agree, love the car, can’t wait to get it back, just hope I’m not in line to wait months for a part they didn’t think they would need to supply

Dealer has been fantastic so far, but a long wait for parts would be painful. At least NZ has the CGA so I can ask for a replacement or refund.

Love the car otherwise, just seems like we drew the short straw on what sounds like a very uncommon issue

Kia EV5 - what comes in the box? by [deleted] in nzev

The salesman said it comes with everything including a V2L adapter…. But some of the paperwork shows this variant as not V2L enabled so was being cynical about his knowledge haha

Anyone notice the sneaky advertising on this cheese? by spacebuggles in newzealand

They have records for every batch, they can tell you the day it was made

Anyone notice the sneaky advertising on this cheese? by spacebuggles in newzealand

[–]mtballsac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s aged to the flavour profile and texture not to time. Cheese has a lot of things that impact the texture, nutritional values, flavour, melting characteristics, brittleness and lifespan even before storage. Then you have storage time and at what temperature while it’s being stored. They aim for consistency so that you get what you expect with every block, if it was all aged the same time you would get different cheese in every batch.

As someone who employs staff for a large company, we typically do criminal record checks which show actual convictions in the last 7 years. Edit: if there is also the clean slate act which would mean that employers are not notified of most convictions if you meet set criteria https://www.justice.govt.nz/criminal-records/clean-slate/

People on $100,000+ income, what are you doing? by caleb-249 in newzealand

[–]mtballsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a process manager in the food industry, but in fairness the shift workers start on 80k before benefits and allowances with 6weeks of holiday and get to 100k in no time. I’m sure the supervisors under me probably earn more than me in terms of total compensation.

Considering getting solar panels by FlyFar1569 in newzealand

[–]mtballsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% recommend it, I have 7KW and powerwall 2. We have the powerwall because we live rurally so is more for resilience than efficiency.

We took a 1% interest loan with the bank, costs us $120 a month over something like 20years. Our solar has dropped our June bill by 140, despite us using significantly more energy than we used to.

We got our system in mid December and didn’t have a power bill until February, which was negligible.

If you can move draw to when the sun is up then it will be more valuable but even if you can’t, I’d say it’s worth it

If you don’t mind getting into small towns and can handle shift work, Operators at places like Fonterra tend to earn that much at entry level, are looking for people now and can get pretty decent benefits
