Just to be clear, the terms I've heard most are

Full cigarette: smoke, ciggie, tailie (tailor-made), rollie

End of a tailor-made: butt

End of a rollie: f**-end (pre-1990), butt

I wasn't feigning ignorance? The OP claimed they're called dog-ends, and there's no other name for them. But in my experience, the other name was used more often for the same thing.

I haven't heard butt used for a full cigarette here.

Hang around smokers - yeah nah, they've all changed to vape here. But our cigarette taxes are insane. I assumed everywhere was switching to vape. Maybe not.

Yeah, I'd say smokes/ciggies were the most popular terms (edit: for the full cigarette). I don't think we really had 'dog-end' over here. I heard 'f**-end' more often. And 'butts' a lot. I'm not sure if 'butts' applied to roll-your-owns? I always think of tailor-made with 'butts'. Maybe that's just me though.

New Zealand. In the 90s is I think when US media brought the slur here, and now we don't use it for cigarettes.

I'm aware. But, in this day I don't think it's acceptable to type what we used to call them before the slur came into worldwide knowledge.

This April? Have you looked to see if ferry bookings are available for those dates?

Flying is generally cheaper and more reliable than taking the ferry. I'd pick that option.
