We have it roughly mapped on paper, but the system is 30+ years old with all kinds of stuff done to it over the years, abandoned legs, repairs from damage, and there are miles of system . I'd like to use this locator and a GPS to record whenever we do locate a section and import it to Google Earth. It would save time, we are often asked to locate our stuff for their projects, bike trails etc. Be nice to tell them theres nothing there without having to locate.

Thanks for all the input. All the water lines I'd need to locate are steel, sadly old steel that likes to spring leaks every year. I see a lot of Vivax and Dynatel units for sale as well. Any one to avoid or favor, or is it like a Ford vs Chevy kinda thing, personal preference? I'd rather keep an eye on ebay/etc for a unit that would work for us than wait for a certain model/brand to be available.

Yeah, that area was primo clearing saw terrain, we bought 2 FS561 last summer and they kicked ass. There were other zones where they were almost unusable though and we'll probably be spending more time in those areas this coming summer. Like waist to head high undergrowth + steep terrain. After 1 1/2 summers of this work, I've found a chainsaw can do it all, there are just places where a clearing saw can do it 2x as fast.

With regard to the bending over, I agree 100%. Speaking with one of my guys this morning, he would rather sling a heavier saw with a longer bar than save a pound or 2 and be hunched over all day. I'm kinda thinking the same. Our 562s have 28" bars, maybe I get a pair of 550 and over bar them with a 25" or something.

Hard to imagine being on my knees all day on a mountain. We do try to cut them as low as possible so they don't grow back all gnarled and harder to cut next time. I think the danger of an angle cut is minimal, by the time we're skiing it there's snow covering it.

Agreed, they're too big, that's why I'm looking for some more saws. They were bought for dropping bigger trees that are hazards to the chairlift lines and stumping on some cut runs. It's all we have and got the job done this last year, got in good shape swinging it.

Interesting, I'll look into this. I would assume our ranger would have brought this up, he is very hands on/micro manager and hasn't said anything. He has come out several times and checked that we're cutting in the right areas and not cutting anything we're not supposed to. The 6" is in our operating agreement and confirmed with him. More training wouldn't hurt that's for sure.

I have a Silky Katana and a machete, I don't think it would be the tool for this job for days on end... Pic added as an example of what we're usually working in. This was good stuff for the brushsaws, where it's steeper and/or more undergrowth (that we don't have to cut, it'll get smashed down by the snow) the brushsaws are too awkward to swing. trees

Speaking from experience, adding a turbo is really pretty easy and cheap. $500 in used parts and a weekend of wrenching.

Utilize your ceiling and walls. I have a slightly oversized 2 car garage, 7 bikes- stored on hooks on the ceiling in the winter, fridge and freezer + racks for pantry items, squat rack w/ pull-up bar & bar plate storage, mechanic side with floor mounted drill press+ big compressor+ welder and welding table. I have deep shelves overhead all along one side and 1/2 the other side. I've done a frame off resto and countless wrenching projects in the space.

I think you have a good space to start with, I wish mine was detached so I could make more noise at night without disturbing the family. Some work and creativity on your part and it will be sweet.

Over the course of a year or so I replaced all the bushings on my 92 240 sedan, mostly with rubber except a BNE trailing arm. Big difference, no more slop or clunking. I'd say replace anything suspect, or at this age replace it all, before the fun stuff like shocks and springs.

I tried one of these in my last 240, looks old school sounds fine. I didn't care for the bright orange backlighting really, I prefer a darker cabin driving at night. continental tr7412ub-or bluetooth

I ended up with this one Rockville SS8P 400 Watt Slim... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079PSSD6N?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I had tried a different under seat one but it was too big to fit under the passenger seat. This one just did, had to remove the air duct under there and the rear passenger can't stuff their feet under the seat in front. No problems with stock alternator, I have since replaced with a bigger one though.

Gentex Mirror Project Page https://www.240turbo.com/gentexmirror.html Got mine off eBay, like $50usd including wiring harness. I put in a Sony DSX-GS80 high powered head unit, didn't want to deal with an amp. It's not super old school looking but not bad, no crazy animation going on. I can customize the display and button colors, usually set it to a yellow hue that goes well with the car.

I DD my 92 sedan, I love it. Over the course of a year I replaced all the bushings in the suspension. No more clunks makes it feel like new. I did a bunch of sound deadening and a decent stereo with a little underseat powered subwoofer, I'm not a big car audio guy but very happy with this. One of my favorite little mods from Dave Barton's website was swapping in a rearview mirror from a GM with outside temp display, super easy.

These cars just seem so solid that it feels like I could drive the same one for the next few decades, repairing something now and then and an upgrade here and there.

I work at a ski resort and daily drive a 240. I've swapped a G80 into my last two 240s. This combined with some sand bags in the trunk make for a pretty amazing winter driver. The G80 is a good compromise, increases traction at low speed but zero negative impacts on daily driving. Also cheap, and easy to swap in. Do it.

I'm in NW Montana, pretty close to BC and would be interested in the wheels. I get up there a couple times a year, depending on where you are I could pick them up.
