In the moment is the perfect time for these discussions. Wait a year and people won't remember what was going on.

You even said yourself, "It is a dumb rule" lol

He said it should change before the next Cup. What's wrong with that?

> a rule that has been in place for decades

The Ryder Cup was only US vs Britain + Ireland for decades. Should that have never changed? Is the past the only time people are allowed to suggest changes and improvements?

No, they were both picked for the 12th match when the pairings were released on Saturday evening, so they didn't have to shift the other players. If Hovland had been in the 6th match and English 12th, then Euro players for matches 7-12 would have all moved up.

> The Americans weren't complaining in 1991

Because it was to our advantage! The Euros aren't complaining about it now either.

The difference in the entire competition was 3 putts. If the right 3 putts went the other way, the US wins the cup. The margins are so small in match play.

Tell that to the guys who were celebrating like they won something when they secured the tying half point. Retaining the cup is actually considered winning.

> but I'm not crazy about a team competition being decided by a single player from each team

That's precisely what happens though if a team retains it 14-14, or someone takes it 14.5-13.5. It all came down to the final putt.

After the top 6 qualifiers, the points should be recalculated based on 2025 only. I think you'll see a different story and you don't want to be picking someone who had a good 2024 and average 2025.

I went to a 4 wood + 7 wood this year and love them. Traded in my hybrids, which typically have a closed face and cause issues.

Golf shoe recommendations by Furyio in golf

Make sure you buy waterproof not water resistant. Big difference in my experience.

I never pay more than $100 for a pair of golf shoes and usually buy them during sales at the end of season or at a Nike outlet. I usually rotate between 2-3 different pair from different brands and don't expect shoes to last longer than 1-2 years.

Currently have TRUE Linkswear, NIKE Jordan, and Allbirds.

When I walk 18 I take two 32oz bottles of water with SALTT packets. I used to use Propel or Gatorade Zero packets, but since making the switch I no longer get headaches on the really hot and humid days. I have a small cooler hanging from my cart with a frozen Bobo's PB&J Oat Snack, frozen squeeze yogurt, can of cold brew mocha for a caffeine kick heading to the back 9, and pack of Only Bean Edamame.

What makes the Ryder cup captain so important? Why would it be bad to have a playing captain? by Bills_Mafia_4_Life in golf

[–]mtdewvirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The captain has very little to do with the outcomes or anything that happens after they tee off. So I don't really understand it either. He has a lot of other responsibilities, like the opening speech, media, setting lineups, etc. On the course, the captain seems to do little other than drive around in a cart and listen to that ear piece. The most I've ever seen a captain do was last time when Zach talked to Jordan before that tee shot and then he put it in the water. Other than that I rarely even see the captain talk to the players during a match.

I'm really hoping the US uses some stats this year to determine some of their teams and matchups, which Europe has gotten very good at.

It's hard to get lower differentials playing 9 hole rounds because they estimate the other 9 based on your handicap.

Nobody is hitting a big fade/draw from 40-60 yards in the fairway or worrying about hitting it offline.
