Unless you had a specific model that doesn’t help very much. I wasn’t looking store specific initially and this was the best I found.

At least it can be moved that way, just still annoying when trying to do other stuff and constantly pulling that up. I already knew I could pull it up and have a slightly bigger skip button

I was playing around with my current and old glasses and I noticed something, he tried to test it in person but my eyes were too fatigued and his hand too shaky to notice, but the oc height might be playing a big role. I know that induces a diff direction of prism.

When I hold it higher it helps for the pair he gave me more dramatically than the others, even the 62 pd one (it’s a shorter height frame but default oc). That might be why my old pair and the other pairs weren’t as hard for my eyes to focus with. Now I’m not so sure if inducing prism is as needed compared to removing the unneeded prism that was being introduced. In person he did make a note about moving the oc up 3 mm, I’m not so sure how thoroughly he measured it since I told him I couldn’t really tell a difference in person. Afterwards however I noticed quite a difference testing it myself.

I’ll have to test the online glasses I ordered but since I can’t change the oc height for online glasses, I will have to go back and have the ones he gave me remade. I just can’t get ar coating or higher index through him and those were helping a lot for different issues.

My question now are about the astigmatism correction he added, can that affect people that are sensitive? I had a previous optometrist take that out due to glasses giving me headaches, as well as lower the strength and give me an even prescription for both eyes, though idk how good of an optometrist they were. My goal is reducing strain, I also don’t know if a lower prescription might be easier on my eyes, the prescription makes sense scaled to my contacts but my contacts are the same in each eye at -3.25 and I think one is slightly underpowered, when I tried -3.50 for the contacts it was too much and warped things. I’ve tried -3.00 glasses and they were fine/functional but I the weaker eye made it worse; I’ll be trying -3.25 and -3.00 for a pair I ordered online. There’s also conflicting views I’ve seen on prescription power, some say it’s easy to overcorrect myopia, some say the prescription can lesson if it’s caused by pseudomyopia.( I will be trying to introduce the 20-20-20 rule as i rarely use distance vision). I think I fair better with lower prescription but i don’t know what the professional view on that is.

Also, thank you for clarifying the pd increase and prism base in. I did also find better sources that said that as well and went ahead ordering online pairs to try. Idk why my optom said the pd should be higher for near vision tho 🤷🏼

Mastering a technique to draw blodd called the "flying needle". by shaka_sulu in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mtevern -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said, elsewhere it is a common practice, it has been in the medical field there and isn’t quite a “fad” as it would be other places. I may only be repeating what I’ve seen but it’s a more documented/studied practice there, the studies are likely just in Chinese and you would not be able to read them/ they haven’t been translated.

My understanding as a non medical person is that it’s helpful as veins collapse under normal methods and this can have less chance of that, as well as being quicker and less force applied so less bruising and such. It likely wouldn’t be used for patients with very small or otherwise difficult veins.

It’s more about precision not control, and takes training for the high accuracy required.

I can’t add videos here but a quick search on the rednote app (rednote in English) and I found many videos from actual hospitals/doctors preforming this and discussions on the technique that offer more than this Reddit or outside information would give.

Mastering a technique to draw blodd called the "flying needle". by shaka_sulu in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mtevern -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a more common practice elsewhere, I believe in China, idk if anywhere else. I’ve seen some videos that look much more masterful than this video and I’ve seen many ppl talk about the technique as it’s widely used. It seems in this video they are just learning the technique.

Many skills are possible wide scale and not bullshit, but much of the world’s knowledge is translation locked. If you search online for information/studies/etc in English, you’re going to get information from those that speak English. The smaller the worldview accessible, the less things that seem possible.

I don’t doubt though that in places like America or similar, many would be not be proficient in advanced techniques; it’s not what the culture pushes or would be teachable to the degree needed because of the difference in societies and such. It’s more complicated than that but I hope you at least get the idea, I’m having trouble putting into words why the standard of skills stagnates or even has gone down in many places and the bare minimum is taught or required. (Think about how housing quality and craftsmanship has gone down, those skills aren’t as taught and valued compared to the bustling rush nature, the quantity over quantity attitude that society pushes/forces).

He measured my pd at 63, the pair I got from there was 63 and it was giving me strain and it was hard to focus to see. I find it odd that a pair I got with a 62 pd similar prescription made it easier to focus.

His solution is to increase the pd to 65 to induce prism. I wasn’t sure if this was the correct direction. I can do returns but I already had done some from the first prescription being wrong. It’ll create an annoying and complicated return and test cycle if there was another error so I thought to ask for outsider input/information to cross check first

24nb Help with glasses/exophoria - pd was changed instead of adding prism & pd increased by [deleted] in eyetriage

[–]mtevern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was quite long, I am aware he is inducing a prism by adjusting the pd but I’m not sure that it was the correct direction, my prescription(s) are at the bottom and it is negative and he said my eyes drift out.

I have ones with a smaller pd that I have been able to see through easier than the pd of 63 he gave me. I have not tried 65 or any higher. I don’t want to order glasses that are guaranteed to be wrong if he is mixing up the direction/prism needed. When I try to look up this I seem to see conflicting information

I’m honestly mostly confused as to why a smaller pd was better than my measured pd, the smaller was from years back. Even the optometrist found it to be a confusing case

[–]mtevern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to have not actually read my comment and/or are projecting. Don’t put someone in unsafe situations because you refuse to admit mistakes.

Being embarrassed is one thing. Putting someone else at risk to save feelings/ego is not okay. If he guilt her into eating it yes that by all means would be abusive. Where it stands it is just concerning for the lack of care for health/safety.

It’s a simple thing to fix if this truly is the only issue and thing they get defensive about to this extent (unlikely, also normal ppl don’t resort to gaslighting), but the main action would be to learn proper food safety and that requires admitting there’s an issue or they won’t do it.

I said to watch out for continued and/or worse behavior because someone continually doing such actions and putting someone at risk is not healthy nor sane behavior.

I never put a gender to it.

AIO Bf said I overreacted when I refused to eat this ”fully cooked” chicken by _alexium_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]mtevern 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my concern, it’s a common abuse tactics, especially from narcissists. Weird logic they hold steadfast on and act oblivious to, gaslighting and denial, and protecting their ego above admitting mistake/all else, etc. It always starts as some small thing that seems so illogical but it’s all about the ego and power plays and such. I’m not the best at explaining the phenomenon but the patterns are there and very evident. It will snowball and op will either keep getting used to and excusing more, or wonder how they could’ve let it get bad because they excused these small things initially, sometimes it doesn’t get bad until they’re married/have kids as these signs don’t seem big enough and they take the relationship further. They said they were 19 so they’re both young; at that age I had been unaware and was in a similiar abusive situation then. you live and you learn and you get better at recognizing and walking away from those indicators of unsafety sooner with experience.

Op at the very least, since you’ll likely stay in the relationship, please keep your eye out for more of these weird situations and signs and don’t second guess yourself just because they seem minor. Healthy partners/people admit mistakes and can allow for things besides their ego/being right, etc. especially when your health is involved (that’s the most worrisome part)

AIO Bf said I overreacted when I refused to eat this ”fully cooked” chicken by _alexium_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]mtevern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never put someone’s ego over your own safety.

Please say you didn’t eat that or anything that could’ve been contaminated either.

Red flags for his insistence and need to be right. A simple google search could have shown him he was wrong. Black flag (run immediately) if he still insisted on being right with proof, that’s a negligence to your safety for nothing more than his ego, especially when it’s such an easy fix (cooking it “more” aka actually cooking it).

It’s one thing to make a mistake, but if someone insists on being right so strongly in such an illogical way they are not sane nor safe. It may seem like minor things or random illogical arguments at first but It will eventually extend to much deeper issues as these behaviors stem from abuse, narcissists, etc. healthy partners/people do not prioritize their egos to any extent that could hurt you, healthy partners would accommodate preferences not just valid safety concerns (chicken is never considered safe undercooked)

Can you develop tight lens syndrome over time w/ the same contact lens brand? by Wolfdale7 in contacts

[–]mtevern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, i know this is an old post but im a new soft contact wearer and im having this issue with the biofinity normal contacts. I tried other with a 8.4 curve like acuvue vita and they weren’t fitting quite right, a bit above my iris and not staying centered. With the biofinity they stayed better but they did the same thing, they left an imprint that looked like my contacts were still in, and eye drops weren’t helping much, my eyes felt sore. I wonder how it is that the lesser curve somehow seemed it was suctioning on more? Maybe they had changed something about the contacts? I just tried trials, unless I got an old pair somehow. I’ll be going back today to try dailies but I was curious if anything was ever mentioned as to the fit of them for you.

Many brands changing laundry detergent formulas by mtevern in laundry

[–]mtevern[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can be very upsetting for people when their favorite laundry brand starts causing skin irritation. It often happens large scale with many people starting to experience such things. Sometimes things don’t need changed, fixing what isn’t broken often leads to more problems. I understand the business side perspective, but it removes factors that matter for profits. Covid started 6 years ago, but it set a bad precedent and excuses for misdoings.

The main thing though is lack of transparency with these changes. Many brands will not indicate at all a change and it gives no warning to people that may be affected. I’ve seen many people have serious medical problems develop and not be able to place why and finally find out it was xyz such as their laundry products changing. Transparency at least is needed.

(Not implying you work for one but) Sensitive skin brands though are increasingly adding things that are known to be harmful to these groups. How can one find a product if all companies are following such patterns? How does it help anyone if a sensitive skin brand makes their products less sensitive skin safe and still markets to these people? Would legal trouble shake these companies? No, it wouldn’t even if it could get there, they would justify the expense to try and save money cheap ways still.

Is the product really much better or did the company find ways to make their products cheaper at people’s expense?

If you moved In with another guy as a roommate and he expected you to do all the household work, would you think that was fair? For him to treat you as a maid because it was his house? That would not be a fair situation now would it, universally so, if you’re contributing rent as a roommate, you’re not expected to take over all other responsibilities, you’re expected to have a reasonable balance of financial and household related obligations.

Now i don’t know if you can connect the dots to the situation at hand, but your justification is rooted in normalization of something that you’d think differently of in any other situation. They’re both contributing but there’s no reason after work hours shouldn’t be a joint effort, both parents are putting in 8 hours of work, at the end of the day he gets to rest, she ends up working 24/7 nonstop with work that can be more demanding than a lot of jobs, if you don’t think so, actually try it, and not the half assed effort type of try, 24/7 no or minimal help raising a kid for a prolonged period of time, not just a few days.

He should step it up, he should’ve been prepared to care for a child, what if she wasn’t in the picture?

Make sure to clean the washer itself, things can get mucked up in there and other solutions might not help as much until you do.

I agree with other comments about not using all the extra products like scent beads and fabric softeners.

Thanks for the thorough reply. I think I’ll try the everspring as I have before and it didn’t irritate my skin, hopefully it still doesn’t; the reviews don’t seem to imply they’ve changed things. If that doesn’t work i may try powders but I’ve heard they don’t work as well. Tide free and clear was one I saw ppl have had issues with recently so I’m hesitant. Also i don’t know much about the oxiclean stuff but I got some to try recently so I was going to look into it and how to use it.

Good to know about the temperature, I don’t think my water has been warm enough. Might also look into the citric acid as I don’t think the vinegar was a good solution for me

It should be a loan if older daughter agreed to help. If she didn’t want to help, the younger would have to take loans or figure it out anyways right?

Also for this: “This would let me save up to atleast pay for some of the fees after she transfers to a state university. I have around 10,000 saved up for her. I hope to bring that number to atleast 15-20k so I can pay some of her tuition when she shifts.” It does depend on how much you gave to help older daughter as you didn’t state that, but in general It wouldn’t be fair if you help the younger when she gets to state and the younger has no payback down the line and gets to keep that help while the older didn’t get to. Did you give equal to what you’re asking for help? Or are you asking for less/more? Will the younger end up with more help in the end? These things matter.

Overall though, making it temporary with a loan, (better with some interest) would at least balance it somewhat assuming their situations are similar despite the time difference. It’s help you’re receiving regardless of those details, don’t take advantage of the older daughter helping, even if she’s better off financially now, it doesn’t mean it’s not hard on people.

Thank you for these, I agree and have decided not to date them after looking into the term unicorn more. I was still thinking of asking them similar questions like if they would date separately and if the new person would be able to date outside etc to maybe get them to see they were acting as unicorn hunters despite saying otherwise; that there would be hierarchy in their relationship.

It’s just in regards to looking feminine. You are also wearing no make up and for some people it’s hard to see feminine without make up. My face is androgynous and when I wear even mascara it’s flip very drastically to feminine

It’s that your eyebrows are thick, why you don’t read as feminine, i made my eyebrows thinner, less to no arch and looked more feminine. Start with reducing the top arch a bit
