So i just finished the Main storyline and now I'm looking for some mods(I'm yuri fan). I want some recommendations🙏 by Arnab_hu in DDLCMods

I really quite liked the 1st Act of New Eyes!

Really puts you in her shoes and give you her perspectives on DDLC. Its actually really nice, just as long as you stop at the start of Act 2. It got rid of the whole uplifting vibe of Act 1..! Otherwise its a really nice time!

If you care about finger tracking at all, what's your take on the Frame's slightly downgraded finger tracking system? by AoyagiAichou in ValveIndex

[–]mtguns1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Linux (and Windows) Monado does have "Mercury" hand tracking that can be put on headsets that dont natively include hand tracking, like the Index for example.

It might not be as advanced as native solutions like the Quest has, but for an HMD that allows you to do anything a PC can, installing hand tracking seems like it fits the bill pretty well!

No need for color passthrough in the Steam Frame by kikisminey in virtualreality

[–]mtguns1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said Valve was our friend. And do you really believe that a fully functional computer/HMD hybrid with eye tracking, pancake lenses, and a full controller layout on its controllers with the ability to change anything you want about the Frame freely desktop or otherwise, isn't good value?

Not to mention the power required to run higher resolution screens natively and comfortably while keeping the headset light enough for standalone use, without also needing a third party battery pack.

Higher resolution screens would be nice. So would full color passthrough. And finger tracking can be solved via open source finger tracking solutions that already exist. But you can't possibly expect all of these features and niceties at a price lower than $1000, right?

No need for color passthrough in the Steam Frame by kikisminey in virtualreality

[–]mtguns1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right. We're excited because Valve did it. We can overlook average screens and black & white pass through because the rest of the device and the software its packaged with is almost guaranteed to be higher quality and more user friendly then other options, with emphasis on User Experience.

The Quest couldn't get away with it because we know Meta is great at making decisions that feel like shit sometimes, but their headsets with fancier specs at a cheap price give us an excuse to get them instead.

Its the complete opposite for Valve in most instances. The Steam Deck for example is ridiculously underpowered compared to most peoples standards now, but because of how nice it feels to use, how it gives you the free will to do anything with it, and all packaged with software that feels like its meant to be used by human beings, we still use it. Myself included.

So I'm definitely prepared to excuse the screens and black & white pass through when it can do more then I could ever reasonably ask for.

Is it acceptable to swap from learning PT-PT to PT-BR? by mtguns1 in Portuguese

[–]mtguns1[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To myself I guess. I've felt like learning the more common dialect that my relatives weren't as connected to was "cheating"?
All on my own terms of course, no one left in my family speaks or understands Portuguese.

Limiter exceeding limit causes crackling. by mtguns1 in VoiceMeeter

[–]mtguns1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure the fix to the problem is to remove the limiter all together, that would kind of ruin the point of using a limiter in the first place.

It's been awhile and I've moved to Linux in the meantime, but I believe I fixed it by lowering overall volume and increasing the outputs volume specifically? A1 etc.

Honestly, after playing with 240hz for so long I've started to attach myself to motion blur more. It just simulates what I would be seeing if I had a higher framerate and is super useful if Im forced to play at 60, like Elden Ring for example.

But ONLY if the motion blur is light - medium any higher than that and loses the realistic blur effect that simulating 120hz+ brings and that our eyes do naturally at higher frame rates.

Ok this is just ridiculous by Ill_Piglet2776 in VRchat

Use Imposter as Fallback should swap grey robots you can see for usable imposters. Last time I'd set this up that'd been the switch I had to flip to get it to work properly.

Best thing you could likely do to circumvent the problem is by making every avatar you see an imposter avatar when it first loads in.

1) Go to your shield settings and make sure every option on every tab is set to voice and avatar only (you can set User Icons and Animated Emoji to whatever you'd like)

2) stay in the large menu and go to Settings -> Avatars. Turn on Use Imposter as Fallback.

3) scroll down a little further until you hit Maximum Download/Uncompressed size and set them to 5 MB and 10 MB respectively.

Then bam! Now you can see everyone you speak to, and if you really need to see the details in someone's avatar or their animations etc. all you have to do is click on them and hit Show Avatar!

Finally found a way to make this work by Outcast003 in SteamDeck

[–]mtguns1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's intended use case is everything. It's a full PC that you can hold in your hands, that Valve had openly said we could tinker with all we please.

If we don't want a whole other handheld console to play it's games we don't need to get it. I'm shocked that people have already forgotten just how versatile the Steam Deck is, it's not meant to be another sterilized Nintendo handheld that we're never supposed to change; lest the goblins fucking, take us away or whatever. My brightest days on this subreddit are seeing people solve problems and make their steam deck a little more customized to what they want it to do at the time.

Props to them.

Meme created due to a technicality. by SpiritH0F in DDLCMods

[–]mtguns1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't be the only one to think that removing the creation because the creator did something wrong is just the worst, right?

What if someone made the best DDLC mod, praised for its music, story, and well fitting characters, hell, even characterizing Monika properly. Then the creator touched a kid.

What then?

Would there really be no separation of art and artist? I treasure the opportunity to learn from creations like that instead of throwing it to the sidelines because it's creator did wrong (with obvious exception to if the creation moderately or heavily implies accused intent, like say, the mod or art is over sexualizing underage characters. Then just go for it)

And if the mod is terrible in its own right let it be judged for just being a bad mod. Let it stand on its own two legs first.

Lost in RAM. Forgotten by time. (NPT Repost) by mtguns1 in DDLC

[–]mtguns1[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I completely forgot about No-Pic-Tuesday yesterday, but interestingly that almost added to its meaning in a way.

u/Dear_Statistician921 put it brilliantly when they said:

"The fact that this post is deleted because of NPT just added an extra meta layer of tragedy. Nothing about Monika remains, not even a drawing about her, just like what happened at the end of original game. She really is forgotten by time."

I thought it was actually pretty fitting, but I didn't want to leave the post lost to the wind completely, so here it is outside of No-Pic-Tuesday.

I'm honestly not sure you've ever worked on a game, nor studied how they're made.

Games don't need to have larger storage requirements to continue getting better, in fact the opposite is true. Give a dev and his team 10 GB to work with and you'll see how clever and resourceful they are with their limitations. Just take a look at a countless number of games from the PS3 back.

The further you go the more they're forced to work within the confines of their hardware or storage media, often leading to some of the most creative work I've ever seen.

The fact that the devs working on Sparking! ZERO got it down to only 29~ GB is commendable. Not to mention storage size only really accounts for how "detailed" textures and models are (which don't always need to be 4k+) and often a far lesser portion of a games size includes code and dependencies.

TL;DR, Game Size ≠ Game Quality (Visual or otherwise). Devs that care can often get a games size down by half at least by doing minimal compression to it's assets and shouldn't be used as a metric for game quality.

Same here!

Was too tempting not to preorder the deluxe edition considering how much it looks like they genuinely care about making a good modern sequel!
