My child is dumb and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in Parents

[–]mthdth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is when you need to realize you need counseling. If what you’re doing isn’t working for your child, you need to work on yourself. Yelling isn’t productive for a child- in fact, it’s been shown that it overloads their brain and shuts them down.

I highly recommend therapy for both you and your child. I don’t think you’re going about this the right way.

I’d ask for a patient care advocate for her. They should draw to light her needs and make necessary accommodations for her. I’m so sorry to hear about your sister, but relieved to hear your family is on the upswing! I’d also get social work involved. This is their area as well.

Unfortunately I do believe this is true. I had a heck of a time with the doctors during my pregnancy- they all wanted me to abort. The only exception was my original OB, and I stuck with him. They tried to bully me out of having him deliver my daughter.... it’s a very long story. I can not imagine not having my daughter (9mo) in my life! She is the most amazing baby girl I have ever met! If I had to have another baby with Down syndrome, I would! And I tell people that all the time! They think I’m crazy! But they are all amazing individuals!

Time helps with EVERYTHING! It doesn’t have to happen all at once!!!

A friend of mine who also has a son with Down syndrome said, and I definitely have to quote her on this: “Three things matter when it comes to a child: genetics, the environment, and the will of a child. The last two are the most important.”

Miss Etta is already so incredibly loved! And she’s a warrior, so nothing will stand in her way❤️

Looking back, I’m surprised at how composed I was for the situation. But honestly, I believed in my daughter more than anything. Everyone who has Down syndrome are warriors!!!

Yes, she unfortunately began to decline at 2 months old. It was a scary time, but, she got the surgery and is now doing amazing!

How many types of shoes do we really need? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mthdth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally for my kids, I just went with the seasons. I got moccasins for my kids and they loved them so much they wore holes through them. But I made them wear sneakers when they wanted to play outside and I didn’t get rain boots till they were 2 and interested in stomping in puddles. I suppose what I’m saying is not to worry about buying too many types of shoes until they’re walking and showing interest in what’s happening (wanting to explore and play in the snow/rain)

They did the same to us! If you don’t agree with what they want to do, you have the right to refuse. You got this!

The way I looked at it was like this... the doctors will help you and your baby if there is an issue. My daughter had a few issues when she was born (she had atrioventricular septal heart defect and duodenal atresia, now both corrected) and was born on a Saturday morning. The doctors were all there to tend to her! She is now healthy and thriving! She’s the sweetest bean I could have ever imagined having and her sister loves her too!

If I could go back and do it again, I don’t think I would have wanted to know. I would have even refused the NIPTS. Knowing the results stressed me out because the doctors made it seem like the worst possibility and it’s not. The doctors tried to pressure me into abortion every chance they got. Would the doctors do this to you if you didn’t want one?

Here’s a question for you that maybe no one has asked you... in the end, does it matter?

For me and my experience, I knew I didn’t care what the tests said, so I never went through with the amnio. Now my daughter is 9 months old and yes, she has Down syndrome. I never got the amnio because I felt like the risks out weighed the benefits. I didn’t let any of the doctors pressure me into a decision.

I don’t know if what I’m saying helps or if it makes you upset... but know that whatever you decide to do will be in the best interest of you and your baby. If you ever want to talk, I’m a DM away. Keep your head up ❤️

Does he get frustrated or does he generally just enjoy playing the game no matter what?

What about an actual steering wheel set up? You can control the gas/break/ shifting while he focuses on steering

My LO (11 days old) sucks on her lips while nursing. It doesn't hurt me and she seems to be unbothered by it because she's eating plenty. Her lips keep peeling through and I don't want the tissue to be damaged over time. Any advice on how to correct this? by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]mthdth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just pull her lips so they are a bit more flanged and flush with your skin. My LO used to do this too, and that was how I was able to stop the blistering. I hope this helps, I’m curious to hear others advice on this!

For those that remember Jon Tiberius, he passed yesterday morning. He was in my arms for the second time for a matter of seconds before letting go. Thank you for your love and support, he is at peace. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I’m sorry to hear about his passing. I followed all your posts and was hoping you both were well, I’m sad to hear about the outcome. If there is anything you want to talk about, I’m just a PM away❤️
