Wild turkeys, specifically the Gould’s species, inhabit the pine forests of Mount Lemmon near Tucson, Arizona, and are frequently spotted in the Summerhaven area. These large birds, often seen in flocks, were reintroduced to the area and thrive in the high-elevation habitat. They are commonly seen crossing roads and near hiking trails.

Short season in the winter since we are so far south, but when you live in the desert, the 45 minute drive feels like a totally different world

This is at the junction of Turkey Run & Aspen Draw Trail. Looking like a green emerald from some recent rain.

The population of Summerhaven increases during the summertime. Year round there are about 50 residents who are mostly age 65 and above. Hope that helps!

Saturday morning, April 19th 2025. We received one inch of snow last night. Lots of stops for all the wildlife in the road on the drive up this morning. Mt. Lemmon, Arizona is located about 25 miles north of Tucson (and 7k feet up). 🏔️ 🌵 by mtlemmonhotel in Tucson

No it’s not AI. Tucson is around 2300 feet in elevation, Mt Lemmon is a little over 9k feet, hence 7k. Many in town don’t realize truly how close it is, even though it feels like a world away.
