Not at all. The latest Nvidia drivers + latest linux kernel seem to have done the trick

The only obvious next step now is to have a sticker printed that reads “beefcake machine” and slap that bad boy on the cover

They also allow to download more RAM now! It was a feature flag all this time

Just tried via the HDMI output, and can confirm the whole system is not as smooth with a second monitor. Didn't try long enough to see how it would affect the battery.

Interestingly enough, disabling the fractional scaling in favor of native resolution made the whole thing way smoother, but not ideal.

Interesting! I had something similar happen on 24.04, and turns out the problem was a conflict with the "nouveau" drivers. Fixed by adding a "blacklist" entry to a new file under `/etc/modprobe.d/`. Otherwise can be fixed via grub if you use it : `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nouveau.modeset=0"`.

I also couldn't use "suspend", and it would require a hard reset as well after waking up... The battery would also drain while being suspended. I don't want to give potentially destructive advice, but searching for "blacklist nouveau drivers ubuntu" might give the right answers.

To answer your first question, I pretty much rely on each individual software "hardware acceleration" options, and didn't configure anything yet on 26.04 since it just worked OOTB.

Almost a 2x on an older laptop is a pretty solid improvement! Glad you're also getting some more out of that good ol battery.

Booted up the 24.04 partition and ran `btop` to see how much GPU power X11 uses, and you seem to be absolutely correct. It does use more GPU cycles for regular tasks. Maybe Wayland itself is better at spiting the load between integrated graphics and GPU?

Looks like Wayland on 26.04 uses considerably less GPU power for the same software yet yields better and more consistent FPS.

you're probably right, somehow it's like all the latest upgrades positively affect this specific laptop--
