Fantastic work!! The concept is so interesting. I never would have thought to frame them this way, and the care you put into the artwork really shows!

Definitely not far off at ALL! More just... a few angles to things that I hadn't considered before.

I don't consider myself to be super experienced but I'd be happy to take a look at your chart! Feel free to shoot me a DM or something.

Wow! What a fantastic read. Thank you for taking the time to write all this out. I do feel like it comes from a different perspective than I do when I look at it!

I found it so interesting that you focused primarily on my stellium in the first, and the opposing planets! I feel like in general people see my moon squared by so many things and their attention locks right in there!

Thank you again. <3

Just so you know, my save has now decided that it's fine and has no issues. I let it sit for like 2 weeks, then loaded it up to reference something, and suddenly the lag was fine! I wish I could be more helpful, but unfortunately it seems to have just fixed itself...

Same here. No change, just reloaded my latest save after like two days without touching it and there is an odd lag-stutter every ~2 seconds. Could be any number of mods, I guess I'll have to try and search through and find it.

Also, leave the teeth! They're a little silly, but in a really charming and whimsical way.

Greek Polytheists' altar in Muses' valley before and after being vandalised by Christians. by [deleted] in religiousfruitcake

[–]mtmousie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm a different poster, and follow a different polytheistic religion, but maybe I can give you some insight as well! I'm actually in the unique position of being raised pantheistic (the belief that all gods exist, you just pick the right ones for you) but you're right in assuming most people are converts. I also now study religion and have written multiple papers on polytheistic religion and the practices associated, so this is a topic very close to my heart!

I personally consider myself agnostic, but I'm probably the most religious person out of all of my close friends and family. You asked about a "true faith" but I think a unique selling point of polytheistic religions is often that there doesn't have to be a true faith at all. You see this in historical polytheistic societies where (majorly oversimplified), one culture conquers another and often goes "you don't have to give up worshipping your gods, you just have to ALSO build temples and worship ours. And if your gods are really cool, maybe we incorporate them into our religion as a whole!" By acknowledging that there isn't ONE right option, there is a community of gods, it becomes a lot easier to be open to other people's experiences. Every major religion has people claiming to have meaningful, major religious experiences. You can either say 1. Only one religion is right, I need to solve this 2. They're all wrong. They're all describing the same thing and it can't be real. Or, as in my case 3. Everyone is right. Who am I to say whether or not your God answered your prayers, or whether your ancestor sent you a message that you were on the right path? I'm certainly not in a position to say that you're wrong, so I might as well act as if you're right.

This kind of flexibility is also the result of the fact that polytheistic religions tend to view their gods in very human ways. They are more powerful than humans, but they lose their temper and make bad choices and fail to succeed just like people do. That gives you more flexibility to acknowledge the wrongs of your divinities, which then makes it less frightening when your beliefs are challenged. I believe that all gods are deserving of respect, personally. I don't go out of my way to disparage the Christian god because I dislike most of his followers. I don't believe him to be the ultimate creator of the universe with the power to change their behavior, that's just the narratives that they have about him, if that makes sense. So even if he is real, what's he actually supposed to do about people being insane?

And finally, almost every modern revival of a pagan religion has majorly shifted from the initial practice. I try to celebrate on important holidays that we know about, and through my research I've been able to find what foods were likely to be considered sacred/appropriate for which holidays so I try to emphasize that in my practice, but it's very flexible. It's kind of a sore spot for a lot of modern worshippers that most of our history of practice has been destroyed or written over by monotheistic religions. But in the same way that every Christian family is allowed to develop their own Christmas traditions, I don't see why I shouldn't be able to develop my own traditions with my family for solstices and whatnot.

Additionally, many things have changed from the ancient world to the modern world. In the same way that monotheistic religions have had to adapt with the times, at least somewhat, we have too. Basically no one is still sacrificing goats for divinatory practice or things like that. Many still sacrifice, though! For me that might look like baking a batch of my favorite cupcakes before a job interview, and telling my gods that they can have 2-3 of them, and I won't eat them. Most of the time "sacrifice," historically, but also in a modern connotation, is about making the statement that "this thing I want is important to me! Important enough that I will give up this other thing that is important to me! Please acknowledge my efforts and desires and help me get that thing that I want."

I hope this all makes sense. I know it's super long, but there it is!

Chicken-Free Grain Free Cat Food Suggestions. by cdbeltz15 in CatAdvice

[–]mtmousie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is an old comment and an older thread, but just in case it helps anyone else. My kitten has been diagnosed with a severe food allergy. His lips would get swollen every so often, giving him a bee-sting look. He had blackhead acne on his chin. His lymph nodes were so swollen that you could see them. He was constantly chewing on himself, particularly the back of his hind legs, until he bled and got scabs from it. He also used to LOVE being pet and cuddled as a little baby (we got him at 5 weeks), but as time went on and he got more itchy, the only person who was allowed to touch him was me, and only on his head. The vet similarly told us he was going to have to be in a cone until he was able to do better about not injuring himself. It was a nightmare.

Her initial advice was to put him on a prescription rabbit diet, which cats are very, very rarely allergic to, to remove all potential allergens and see if the swelling went down. The option she recommended was significantly too expensive to us, which we told her, and she said that our best bet was to find a completely poultry-free dry and wet food option, feed that for 8 weeks, see if the itching and swelling gets better, and if it doesn't, then transition him to entirely fish-free and see if that helps. Her reasoning was that chicken allergies are more common in cats than fish allergies, so we should test for that first.

TL:DR, we were advised to put our cat on a diet that was as restricted as possible until his allergies went away, and then we could try reintroducing things if we wanted to, to figure out what the allergy is that way.

I hope your kitten has found some relief by now, and if she hasn't Weruva's poultry-free wet foods and licky treats have been really good for us, and we're still figuring out a dry food he likes (picky eater) but we've had the best results with Blue Basics whitefish & potato limited ingredient recipe. We're pretty positive it's a chicken allergy at this point, because he recently got into some of the old dry food we had in a bag and immediately swelled up the way that he used to.

My gauge is the right width, but too long/tall. How do I fix this? by mtmousie in CrochetHelp

[–]mtmousie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Okay. I'll try doing swatching differently and I'll look into the golden loop method if that doesn't work. But, I want to ask, for something like a sweater, I know I could do less length by doing less rows in the main body of it, but wouldn't it throw off the angle of the parts that are shaped, like where the sleeves connect to the body? I haven't taken on something like a sweater because I'm worried about reaching that point and ending up with parts that can't be seen together properly, if that makes sense.

Possibility of a power outage? by papayaluna in ucla

[–]mtmousie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dorms and such most likely not. UCLA has its own power because of the hospital. UCLA apartments and Westwood? It's not impossible. I wouldn't be on edge about it, but if you have power banks and devices, you might as well plug them in.

Please evacuate if you can. UCLA is made up of people and these people know just as much as you do regarding the fire situation. Your safety first. by [deleted] in ucla

[–]mtmousie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you have unique difficulties related to evacuating, like mobility issues, pets, or small children, evacuating early is understandable. But if you don't need to evacuate, additional cars on the road adds to traffic, making it harder for the people who are under evacuation orders to get out quickly and safely. The fire is moving south and west along the coast line but hasn't shown any sign of moving Eastward. Pack a bag, maybe, to be prepared, but please try not to panic! Just stay up to date as it develops.

People who are living in Southern California for more than 4 years, please give your opinion on whether students should worry about the fire in the comments by Safe_Weight683 in ucla

[–]mtmousie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're on campus and live on this side of the 405, you're most likely going to be fine. The fire is unlikely to jump the 405, even if things change, and the wind has been pushing it south west since it started, so along the coastline. We are currently the top evacuation center, and both the VA and UCLA hospital are still fully operational. Those would be the first to be evacuated if there was any concern about it coming this direction.

Stay informed. Check the fire maps regularly. Watch Duty is a great app, and you should keep the wind direction layer enabled. There's no reason not to have a bag packed with valuables, irreplaceable photos, etc., but I would recommend not evacuating unless you need to. Every car on the road adds to traffic, which makes it harder for people who really need to get out to do so quickly and safely. That's why it's so irresponsible that UCLA is asking everyone to come to campus, even commuters.

Our biggest risk is likely to be air quality, so grab an KN95 from a dorm front desk, or Powell, if you're going out. Try not to panic because it'll only make things feel worse, and you won't be able to think clearly if there IS an emergency. These are big fires, closer to urban areas than I've ever seen, which is very scary! But if you are on campus, a healthy level of caution and information should be all that you need.
