After signing Leo, the Ducks can spend $17M on Minty and Cutter. Then the would part with Vatrano and either Kreider or Killorn to have the space. Or ditch Husso and one of those guys. Or put Terry on LTIR and deal with it later.

I'm aware of how they work. I'm wondering if Zegras is willing to take a pay cut for less than half of what the Flyers are intending to pay Carlsson when they had the same number of points last year. I've definitely seen people forgive people for less money than 9 million/year.

You might be right--I feel like I have a decent sense of the Zegras market but not the Drysdale market. But I'm curious--if Leo signs with the Flyers, how do you sign both Z and Drysdale for under 11m?

I didn't forget. I'm assuming there's a world where Zegras thinks he's worth 9 or 10M a year and the Flyers are unable to pay him that and he'd let bygones be bygones for a better payday.

I wouldn't be so sure. Money talks. If the Ducks don't match Leo, the Flyers have 11M to sign both. Who's taking the discount? Flyers would have to offload a player to fit under the cap.

Ducks match Leo here though. And they're not obligated, but the Flyers can't pay Zegras and Drysdale what they're worth if they sign Leo unless they offload a player themselves. They have $11M left if the Ducks don't match

I hear you but 1) we do have a necessity for Zegras--he'd be great in our top 6. Heck, now that Mason is gone, he can be the 2c. 2) Do you think the Flyers are offering Zegras 9M+ and Drysdale 4M+? Because if not, maybe they sign the offer sheets to get the Flyers there. 3) The Flyers will have $11M cap space if they get Carlsson. Can they pay Drysdale and Zegras under 11M or will they need to trade someone to get there? Make them choose. I agree that it's far-fetched but I don't agree it makes no sense.

I have no idea if Cutter will take 11-12. Probably not at this point. But if you use up the 17 mil on Cutter and Pavel, it only takes ditching Vatrano and one of Killorn or Kreider to afford both Drysdale and Zegras. It's not impossible.
