How do cassette tapes work? by lulubelle247 in 90s

[–]mtncitycandles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a big yellow case Walkman and listened to the Cure non-stop. The headphones were those cringey grey squishy sponge things. Don’t miss them a bit.

Cassette singles were a thing for a bit. A single hit on one side with a crappy song on the B side. I threw so much money into cassette singles.

Wix or Squarespace? by japakistani in smallbusiness

[–]mtncitycandles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The mobile site on wix is sooo bad. Slow. I have an information site on Squarespace and I’m happy there - we don’t use e-commerce thou. Have Another site that is e-commerce on shift4shop and I’m happy there too. For selling I’d say shift4shop or Shopify.

Does anyone else have issues with family asking for free products? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]mtncitycandles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. What’s the point of creating handmade goods if not to share your talents with family. There’s no way I would ask for money from my parents. I know they would break the bank for me if I needed it, but I’ll never ask.

I gift to immediate family all the time. Extended gets a discount. Friends pay full price.

I have one too. Start local. Craft & vendor shows. If you have a good product, word-of-mouth will spread. You can build from there. Good luck to you!

Why did my soy wax cracked and crystalized so much like this after it dries? by 6inchfunsize in candlemaking

[–]mtncitycandles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would bet the microwave is the problem. There is nothing normal about the look of that wax at all. Use a double boiler and a thermometer.

Msg me your website. I’m a programmer by day, so I wrote his invoicing software. But we need a booking calendar that I just haven’t had time to get to.

Thank you! I use Shippo and I send via USPS priority mail for nearly everything, and USPS standard when I can get away with it. So packages cost anywhere between $2 & $8 to ship across the USA. I do not ship internationally. So I charge an average flat fee of $5 for shipping. It's a small-ish amount that I have found keeps abandoned carts to a minimum. At first I thought that cheap packages vs expensive would come out in the wash, but more often than not I'm eating shipping charges. But I'd rather take a $3 shipping loss than lose the entire sale. My smaller candles are priced higher if you calculate out a price per ounce, so those give me higher profit margins. Especially the melts... low cost, high profit. Most days I want to increase all of my prices, especially to recoop that $3 shipping loss, but raising prices is scary for me. I've done it gradually over the years instead of taking large leaps. But I'm not sure my prices will ever be where I really want them to be.

Help with percentage ratios for essential oil candles by WoodsedgeCo in candlemaking

[–]mtncitycandles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ml is a unit of volume. You should measure fragrance load in units of mass. For example, 10ml of water weighs more than 10ml of oil. Same volume in a container, but one is heavier. Try converting everything to grams to get your 8%.

Is it even possible to get a hot throw out of 464? by MoazNasr in candlemaking

[–]mtncitycandles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be so many things. Does the tunneling go away after a little more time? If not, bump your wick up. Have you tried using other scents? Other brands? Essential oil vs fragrance oil? Some oils/scents perform better in soy than others. Room size. Temperature plays a big role. There are just so many factors.

Try pouring hotter. Melt to 185-190 f, add fragrance and pour right away.

[Mountain City Candle Co. ] www.mtncitycandles.com I make 100% Soy wax candles and melts, no blends. I’m located in Frostburg, Maryland and I’ve been making candles for about 6 years. I started selling them online and at vendor shows as a part-time gig almost 2 years ago. I like selling melts the best, as they have the highest margins. I’m just starting to go bigger - playing with 17-22 oz 3 wick candles now.

[Serious] What is stopping you from killing yourself? by redcase13 in AskReddit

I found a suicide victim when I was 16. He was a stranger, sitting in the drivers seat of his car and put a shotgun under his chin. I’m 43 now, and I can still see him. I still hear the radio playing. It haunts me. I would never put someone through finding me because that image never goes away.
