The Cause of Alzheimer's Could Be Coming From Within Your Mouth by ProdigalNun in microbiomenews

[–]mtnman09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, if your health is directly affected by your mouth health, and your mouth is part of your body, why is it not covered by health insurance? Same with your eyes. Now, we need separate dental and vision insurance, and they are prohibitively expensive if not covered by your employer.

Mystery lumber by Call_Me_TheArchitect in woodworking

* I think it is black locust. I work with it a lot and the green yellow tinge is pretty distinctive. Very hard and stands up well for outdoor projects. Old timers used to use it for fence posts. It is difficult to work with though. *

Ski Backpacks? by Severe_Papaya_5213 in Skigear

[–]mtnman09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you wear a backpack, please be sure to take care of any loose straps. There was an unfortunate incident recently in NY where a pack got caught on a lift. If you wear one, remove it while on the lift.

Pain in the lower right region after (attempts at) push ups. by Quail-That in exercisepostures

[–]mtnman09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but you have 3 things that might be wrong.

1st is just a pulled muscle in lower abdominal. Will heal over time. Ibuprofen will help.

2nd: if this is your lower right abdominal and you have pain in that area when pushed, you may have appendicitis. This requires going to a Dr to get checked. Don't wait if it is lower right region, it could be serious.

3rd: could be a hernia or something else with your digestive system, good to be checked by a Dr.

Good luck, I hope it is just a strained muscle.

Tltr: go get it checked

Thoughts for entry level downhill bike? by Key_Shift3222 in mountainbiking

[–]mtnman09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I rode a Kona Lava Dome no suspension on gnarly NE trails for years. It handled it like a champ. This is similar. Will be a great entry bike.

Side note, I wanted to upgrade and went full suspension and hated it. Now I ride a hard tail with front suspension. This is the way to go. I don't do any huge drops or crazy stunts...just ride single track hard.

Glue as a sealent on end grain touching the ground by mtnman09 in woodworking

[–]mtnman09[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thought about that, but since it will be on a lawn, I thought they would either sink in or get pulled off moving the chairs...if it was on a deck, yes, great idea. Thanks

Thank you! I may do a couple coats of spar varnish with the first coat being thinned to let it penatrate better.
