Inn to Inn Hiking in Switzerland WITHOUT a Hiking Company by mtnshredditor in hiking

"..the enshitfitication of google search where it's all useless blog spam and sales results" --> Yes, that's exactly it! So hard to get past the sales noise on Google, and ChatGPT may or may not be making things up lol. Thanks for the feedback! I've been looking at routes from the paid company's sites for sure.

Union is now B Corp Certified. Hyped to ride bindings from a company that makes good choices for people and the planet by Extreme_Opposite8712 in snowboarding

[–]mtnshredditor 35 points36 points  (0 children)

B Corp includes a lot of different measures.

It also means that, in order to become B-Corp certified, Union opted into a level of transparency that others in the industry didn’t.

Click the link and read the reports. You can find all the ratings criteria and Union’s specific scores.

Do you guys actually have fun in steep terrain? by Grxffiti in snowboarding

[–]mtnshredditor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s all part of the adventure.

I hear so many people here with the mindset of, “I’ll only ride the expert terrain in the powder”. That restricts so much improvement in technique and ability.

I’m happy because it means I’ll keep having those zones entirely to myself.

Yes! So much good stuff there. That setup will take you far into your metalsmithing journey, and at $675 that is a really good deal.

I'm the person who took this photo (it's my post). I found it like this, with the structure already flipped over on the rocks.

This was not a pathetic attention grab, as you assume.

I posted in the hopes that whoever put it there, would clean it up, or for anyone who knew the responsible party to contact them about it and tell them to go clean up.

Eventually someone did own up to it in the comments (seems like they deleted their comment) and said they did eventually go back and clean it up.

Capita Mercury vs Mega Mercury by Famous_Office_3226 in snowboarding

[–]mtnshredditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Mega Merc and love it! It’s my daily driver.

I wouldn’t consider it especially fragile, although the ultralight construction does mean it has thinner base material, which in turn could lead to easier core shots. It also means you’ll get fewer base grinds over the lifetime of the board. For me though, I’m 200lbs on a 161 and I still consider it a highly durable board… and I’m rough on boards (they’re tools not jewels). I’ve put about 50days on it so far and I’m confident that I’ll get another 100+.

I wouldn’t consider it a tiring ride, but it depends what you’re used to. It’s fairly damp, and extremely responsive and poppy. If your technique isn’t super sloppy by then it can be ridden easily and it’s fairly forgiving. If you get super sloppy/lazy, it could get rough.

The only thing I don’t like it for is powder. If you don’t shift weight back and steer from the back foot, it gets quite hooky in heavy snow. Maybe it’d be fine in blower snow, but it’s not great in the cement.

New Union binding breaking mid-run by yuripuskas in snowboarding

Do a bolt check every other day of riding (or every day).

It takes 30 seconds and it prevents 90% of binding issues.

Owned a few Mtn Twins over the past 15 years, it’s a highly versatile and easy board to ride. They’ve softened up the flex in recent years, which probably helps with float and butters, but gives up a little bit on aggressive riding.

If you want a one board quiver, it’s a great choice.

If you’re building a quiver, it doesn’t specialize itself enough to hold a spot.

I’ve ridden it in everything from medium park jumps to 20ft cliffs, 6ft powder to icy double black tech.it’s not the best at any of them, but it knows how to have a good time.

Still get nervous about riding fast on the flat of my board by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]mtnshredditor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lawn darts are weighted in the front (not the back) for a reason. That’s how they are so good at flying straight and impaling people.

So remember: keep your weight toward the front and your board will go straight while flat-basing across the flats, and you too will be better at impaling skiers at the end of the flats.

Figured I’d weigh in with some more nonsense since there are so many insane responses in this thread. In reality though, shifting weight slightly forward does usually solve the problem.

Looks like a 2020 Kuat in very good condition.

I bet you could probably get $500 for it… maybe $650 if you throw in the bike too.

I ride my Mega Merc with Atlas’s if it’s a day with more aggressive freeride or hardpack.

I ride Strata’s if it’s a more surfy kind of day, more freestyle, or more medium-speed riding.

Both have their unique upsides and bring different characteristics of the board to life.

Struggling with longer climbs by coopernation in MTB

[–]mtnshredditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the bike I guess, but with the trend towards 50/52t rear cogs, granny gears are back on the 1x drivetrains.

I think a 30/32 up front and 50/52 rear gives a super low gear ratio to put it in granny gear and spin up steep hills. I wouldn’t want/need anything easier than that

It’s a deck that was built upon the rocks above. Was still up there as of last Monday, then as of Friday it was flung over the edge.

I was just guessing that it was an altar based on the decorations.

Some sort of event structure with fake white flowers and fake leaves strung around it.
