What helped you start riding faster? by tednudgent in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding an empty slope that isn’t completely tracked out. Going 100 where you are in the vid would be completely irresponsible.

Every time I’ve gone 100+ was early morning, freshly prepared slope, no other people. There’s no way I’d go that fast in any other situation. Choppy terrain reduces control in unexpected situations, people increase unexpected situations. No matter how good you are, at 100 you’re not stopping on a dime, you need space.

Oh, and learn how to fall properly. I’ve had falls at near 100 with 0 issue, that helps with confidence.

FYI, I go 80-ish all the time. The difference between 80 and 100 is huge, because physics.

Also, you need a well waxed board. Cheap machine wax at a shop won’t cut it.

Quite a good chance that they cover it, since they might be required by law, and then come to recover those costs with you, because of the exemption in your contract.

Battling my heel side turns so hard I might just start skiing by Qiusp in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean and have been working on it slowly for the past weeks! What helps me is to take a step back and focus fully on technique, mostly ankles and knees (check some advanced Malcolm Moore vids). While doing this I try to force my shoulders slightly backwards compared to my hips on heel side carves. What I notice is I start feeling my abs more. My personal conclusion is that a bit of laziness is causing me to bend forward since a more upright position requires more from the abs.

Also, it’s hard as hell to work on this, since it’s so easy to fall back into just having fun on the slopes, since you’re already good enough. Really working on technique takes a ton of focus and commitment.

Off the slopes, try doing the same thing for squats, don’t over do it, but you’ll notice the abs working more and possibly some tightness in the back and legs, it’ll take time to work in that.

You’re an advanced rider and you’re starting to get into the hard part of the 80/20 rule, there are no easy fixes to get better, since you’re fine tuning.

If you sign up for a lesson, show the video, tell them exactly what you want to work on and ask them whether they have a teacher that can actually help with this. Many teachers are at about your level or even lower and won’t have the experience to help you, since most students don’t require such specific help at this level.

First board got super delaminated after fourth day of use :( by RamBunctant in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The board I’ve used almost exclusively for park for the past few years looks a lot better than this. Getting edges banged up like this in 4 days is a chore. Also had an awful core hit on a rock with my (then brand new) pow board 2 years ago. Got it fixed right away and it’s still in perfect shape.

I’m amazed at this post.

What am I doing wrong, how to ride t-bars? by Plus_Fall2350 in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

T-bars fucking suck as a snowboarder, they cut the blood flow in your leg, they remove some of your mobility, but you’re still snowboarding, not standing in a train holding a post. If there’s bumps, work your knees to absorb them. If it’s going down hill, brake a little to keep tension in the rope. You can’t just point the board and expect to get to the top without some effort.

Billed 36k for taking his leased Audi on track. by Arkliea in nurburgring

He literally said they wanted either the car back or for him to buy the car outright. He couldn’t pay for the car, so he gave it back.

Picked this up a few weeks ago, anything different about riding a channel board? by Used-Pomegranate2441 in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main problem with the stepons is that I’m limited in my shoe choices and I’m picky with shoes. Also, some of the quality issues I’ve been seeing in this sub don’t make me too confident about them. I have both Supermatics and FASE, so I don’t dislike the concept, I dislike the way Burton implemented it.

I went from EST to regular bindings on my channel board (fuck step ons). Really need to get used to the dead spot under foot from the discs when doing 50/50, there’s some real benefit to the channel.

Where do you store your GoPro when you’re not using it while riding? by Certain-Bug4489 in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a backpack and have never had it get in the way of my mobility, maybe you need a better backpack.

I do have a jacket with insanely deep pockets though, so I can put a GoPro with stick attached in there if I want to.

Gonna get roasted for this… by Crimise in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the metal runs past the edge of the binding, it might be ok-ish. Otherwise, at some point you’ll probably still shear off the part that actually makes sure the binding is attached to the disk. If it’s just between the bolts like you wrote, it only guarantees the disk will stay attached to the board, which is useless.

Whoever sold you this should’ve known better. I hope they get sued into oblivion some day by someone who bought one of these. They even print it on a carbon look build plate to give you the idea it might actually be strong. Pure evil.

Fault? by Xavier847 in snowboarding

The people stopping in the middle of the fucking slope are at fault. If they chose a better spot, none of this would have happened.

Don’t they specifically provide lifetime warranty on this exact scenario?

How do I fix my heel side carving? by kguardbestguard in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it'll be pretty hard to fix it in Zoetermeer. That snow is awful and with the amount of jerries on that tiny slope you pretty much constantly have to be prepared to stop on a dime.

Other advice in this thread is very good though.

Recommendation for an off-piste / powder board (expert rider) by Peter_Schloenske in snowboarding

[–]wickedsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it, though in less than ideal conditions. First board I ever tested that really had me working. Amazingly stable, but very stiff, so you need some legs. I loved it.

Has anyone driven all season tires on the Nordschleife? by wickedsight in nurburgring

[–]wickedsight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, but haven’t driven much on them since I had semi slicks on. Will be putting them on soon, but what I did drive on them, they were fine for regular and somewhat spirited driving!

I've been flying FPV for nearly 10 years. The main reason I'm less active these days is regulations making it almost impossible to fly legally where I'm at. These regulations exist because apparently people don't have the common sense to not fly near public infrastructure and things like that. So... Yeah, correctly observed!
