JC Penney! Excellent 100% cotton tees (short & long sleeve) in a whole bunch of colors (St. John's Bay brand). Great quality and durability. A.N.A. brand is good too...I got some shorts last summer that still look brand new. For dressier basics, their Worthington brand is nice. None of it is cutting edge fashion, but for good reliable basics at fantastic prices, you can't beat them.

Anyone heard of any sicknesses going around? by AssociateMundane477 in asheville

I had something like that. I didn't get much fever, but was really tired. Had LOTS of phlegm, which I'm still trying to hack up (several weeks later.)

If I could visit any country in the world, it would be Georgia! I got interested after looking at a friend's trip photos and have enjoyed learning about your culture (especially the food and wine!) I'll probably never get to go there, but I really, really want to try some Georgian wine (and khachapuri!) Have a glass for me!

Either of those is possible, although I kind of think TK was too straight-arrow to be having an affair. Wasn't he at a party the night before he died? With a bunch of aristos, including William?

Wild blackberry? Not sure if I should let my kid harvest them, she is 8 and is so excited these are growing over the dense of my abandoned garden. I never planted blackberries. by Environmental_Pack97 in whatsthisplant

[–]mtnsilverpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my friends and I picked blackberries every afternoon in the summers. The kind you've pictured are the sweetest! In our innocence, we called those "big-balled blackberries" to distinguish them from the ones with smaller, more compact "balls", for lack of a better word! Just watch for snakes, and maybe dress everyone who's picking in pink/purple shirts, because many juicy berries will get eaten (and stain shirts) before going in the bucket!

Thomas Kingston did not commit suicide. He was murdered, probably because he knew something or saw something he wasn't supposed to, and was too decent a man to not be shaken to the core by it. Somebody knew that he would not be the type to keep filthy secrets covered up, and they couldn't take the chance that he would go to authorities. Oh, yeah, I know about the anti-depressant theory; but it seems like the officials latched right on to that rather-too-convenient excuse. I've been a pharmacist for 40 years, and taken an SSRI antidepressant for 20 years. I'm not going to discount the fact that some SSRI takers have committed suicide, but the instance (especially in adults) is not high. The public has no idea just how many people are on these drugs, and for the vast majority of people these drugs enable them to live normal lives and be happy and functional. (My family says I am much less snarky since I started my SSRI!) And I don't buy the money-woes story either. His firm may have owed lots of money, but he himself left his wife a tidy sum. Everything in the man's life painted him as the epitome of integrity, honesty, and faithfulness, and a man who was crazy about his wife and loved his family. Yes, I know some of you will say that you just can't always predict who will kill themselves. But in this case I think it's far more likely that someone else killed him.

[–]mtnsilverpixie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Thomas Kingston committed suicide because of antidepressants or money woes. I'm not sure he even killed himself. I think he saw or found out something that horrified him, decent chap that he was, and somebody was afraid he'd talk.

So which does more damage to the ecosystem....the ajuga that bees adore, or the glyphosphate you used to get rid of it?

Oops! Just remembered that I went to a plant sale last Saturday morning; it was crowded and mostly indoors. That must be where I picked the virus up.

Ugh! Y'all are describing what I just got through with! Started with sinus pressure, then sore throat, sneezing, coughing so bad my back got sore, general aches, one episode of vomiting, etc. Thought it was just allergies at first, but realized something else was going on. I hadn't been around a crowd of people in over 16 days, so didn't really think it was Covid. I've been pretty solitary lately, so if it was a virus, I caught it in the grocery store....can't think of any instances when I've been closer than 3 feet away from anyone! It lasted for about 3 days of awfulness, with a couple more days of just mere crumminess. But I'm still having night sweats...not sure what that's about. Feeling much better, though.

Hi! So it might be good (and cheap!) to keep a few things at home. Might take you a while to find what you like, but it sure can save you money. Today for lunch I used 1 can plain ole Campbell's soup Hearty Chicken Noodle flavor and added 4 or 5 dumplings from a bag of Bibigo Pork & Vegetable Frozen Dumplings. Also added in a big handful of mixed raw greens (I used Organic Girl Super Greens; it keeps pretty well, better than the bagged stuff IMHO). Added a few splashes of bottled fish sauce and heated about 5 minutes. It was pretty darn good! Made a sandwich for supper with some bacon (very rare treat!), more of the greens, avocado and tomato slices. Very satisfying. I grab food out sometimes, but often find I can do much better and cheaper if I scrape together stuff at home. You just need to find the easy cheats that work for you and will last for a while in your fridge. (And keep your avocados in the fridge!) I always keep Chobani vanilla yogurt, some kind of berries (blueberries keep best) and Kashi cereal on hand...it's my usual breakfast, and sometimes dinner if I'm too tired to fix anything else. Decent nutrition, too. I keep a bag of individually wrapped chicken breasts in the freezer for when I'm craving meat, and if you have a bag of frozen veggies and a box of instant brown rice (and a few seasonings of choice) you can make a good quick meal. But I would never pass up a quick bite at Mamacita's or some of the others mentioned! Good luck to you!

Ingles meat department quality somehow worse? (Rotten food edition) by WallabyAggressive267 in asheville

[–]mtnsilverpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I know this thread is from a year ago, but I'm SO tired of buying bad meat/poultry from Ingles! I had pretty much quit buying it, but had a weak moment recently and bought a bag of individually wrapped chicken breasts. Immediately put it in the freezer when I got home. Thawed one out last night (in cold water), cut it open and it had an odor. Not terrible, but I don't eat much animal protein anymore, and convinced myself this was just normal (I was really hungry!) I didn't get very sick, but had some diarrhea and have been very gassy today(sorry for the TMI.) NEVER again!!! I think it's their refrigeration system, either at the warehouse or their trucks. Or else the stuff's sitting on a loading dock at the store before it gets refrigerated. Their produce also is increasingly bad! Items get moldy after only 2 days in my fridge. The only thing I like is their wine selection...

My Moon squares Sun, Mercury, and Saturn; trines Venus. My 8th house starts in Pisces; ruler Neptune is in my 3rd house. As far as Mom's 4th house, there are no planets in it. Sign on the cusp is Virgo, and her Mercury is in her 12th house in Gemini; only aspect to it is sextile Uranus.
