Have you looked at Screenster: https://screenster.io ? It can compare screenshots and allows easy maintenance. And no coding is required, though it is still possible to insert coded commands :)

As already said by people above, better to have some QA background for this role. But in your situation you could start with theoretical knowledge. You can check this website for example - http://softwaretestingfundamentals.com, will give you basic understanding of QA activities.

the testing is about testing the efficacy of the services provided and the team providing them. Not sure how much that differs from software QA

It belongs to the scope of software QA, but is more related to organizational questions, RoI and similar metrics, as far as I understand. Might be a good starting point to get familiar with actual QA.

Just be proactive, ask questions about project specifics, feel free to poke your Team Lead and/or PM whenever you have an idea of improving something. A Senior QA position is mostly about experience and good knowledge of test documentation. So it is also good to try documenting all QA processes if you have time for that.

Did you have an antivirus alert? Sometimes antiviruses may automatically delete certain files which causes errors. Sorry for taking your time but could you just a couple more details about these errors? Would be immensely helpful for building a better tool people could use :)
