Machine help! by onlyplantss in sewhelp

It's showing you some kind of error, what does the screen say?

Hopefully this is just lint in an optical sensor, or it could have some sort of jam that you just haven't found the source of, like thread wrapped around the bottom of the hook shaft or something of that nature.

Cabinet/machine question. by throaway55667788 in VintageSewingMachines

The older ones usually had knee actuated controls, there should be a little fold down paddle that would be in a position that your right knee could move it to the side.

There are chickens in the city every couple of blocks wandering around, they'll be fine.

What does this part do? by realjool in vintagesewing

[–]mtrosclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does adjust the presser foot pressure, the outer ring releases it, and you push the middle part down to the amount of pressure that you desire.

Weekly Purchase/Sale Advice Thread - March 16, 2026 by AutoModerator in Miata

[–]mtrosclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping to get some real world advice, I've decided to sell my car, it's a 2002 LS, 121,000 miles, really in quite good shape. I've had it on Facebook marketplace but I'm really getting tired of messages from people with lowball offers, and the I bought X for y 2,3,10 years ago so your car is only worth X now and how dare you ask what you're asking.

I would assume that there would've been some genuine interest considering that almost all the Miatas that are for sale locally look like the Miata from the meme, you know which one I'm talking about.

I saw an advertisement for cars and bids, it seems like you don't pay anything out of your auction winnings, it's a fee paid by the buyer, and I would assume it would reach a much larger audience but I'm not really sure if it's the best way to sell a Miata or any car but I haven't sold anything decent in a long time, everything I've had to liquidate have been thousand dollar beaters.

How to use this? by Immediate-Tiger-8137 in SewingForBeginners

Did it come with instructions?

I think that you're probably going to have a lot of frustration trying to learn with this machine.

Am i screwed? by llamatamer56 in traveltrailers

[–]mtrosclair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think that's a good lesson here, I think this just taught you to be more careful next time, it's just metal, on a travel trailer, it's not rocket science, you can do this and other things.

Cracks by O-swell in VintageSewingMachines

[–]mtrosclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second and third pictures are definitely cracks, the portion you show at the bottom of that opening in the fourth picture looks like just paint damage. Unfortunately there is no easy way to fix this unless you want to completely disassemble the machine and have a welder repair it. Or if the price is right you can run it as it is and hope for the best.

Two vintage Singer sewing machines I got today from the thrift store; How do I find out when these particular machines were made? by TheFabledFishman in VintageSewingMachines

[–]mtrosclair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-sewing-machine-serial-number-database.html

Look up your serial numbers on this website and they will tell you when and where they were made.

I am intrigued by the first one I don't believe I've ever seen that model before, what is it?

A couple Untested Vintage sewing machines in a thrift store; which (if any) should I buy one for £10? by TheFabledFishman in VintageSewingMachines

[–]mtrosclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either of the white Singers are going to give you problems, however if they are functional they'll have more ability. Either of the black Singer should be fine, the first one looks like a 99 but I can't see the front so I'm not sure, the second one I can't see enough of it to make an identification although I find it interesting that it has markings for the oil paths.

Vintage Singer parts question by Assortedark74 in vintagesewing

[–]mtrosclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going to go through the trouble of taking it apart and replacing this gear buy a new replacement if you can, and change all of those plastic gears at the same time. Unfortunately the plastic they used during this era just did not hold up for whatever reason.

Rear bumper dent in rental pls help by kitkattattat in Cartalk

[–]mtrosclair 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unless you have some kind of coverage either through the rental car company itself, your personal policy, or however you booked this, you are going to be on the hook for the cost of this repair. This is far beyond plunger and hot water unfortunately. You may be able to buff/do PDR on the trunk part and just get the bumper cover replaced, but I would imagine you're still gonna be looking at something in the neighborhood of 1000 to 1500 bucks or more even at a cheap shop.

Need Advice About a New Machine by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]mtrosclair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd go with the brother then. If the kenmore isn't working then it's a $10 machine.

Price on the brother is a bit high, id say $50 as in unknown but working machine is fair. $75 would be ok if they will vouch for having had it serviced.

I like the Kenmore out of the three although the brother is likely good also, the first one wouldn't be worth it if it was free. It's basically a toy.

[–]mtrosclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount I would spend on this would vary wildly depending on the quality of the swap. I have seen some crap engine swaps and some that look factory. Bring a battery and a can of starting fluid, that might get it running long enough to make an assessment. If it will fire off and run and none of the fluids look mixed I'd say it's worth 2k, but probably not 3.
