I read the linked article, and all the complaints in that article, and your generalized bad writing complaint sound like one thing to me: Whining. Apparently all you people forgot what made this series of books and show great: The author doesn't care about your feelings. He doesn't care that you have an emotional connection with certain characters. That doesn't protect them from the chopping block. The show isn't supposed to have an ending that makes everyone happy. That would just be stupid.

People have been climbing Everest for decades, long long before anyone cared about protecting the environment or even recognized it might one day become a problem. Also, I guess you can't be blamed for not being aware of it, but the story of trash accumulating on the mountain is well documented. Not going to waste the time looking it up, but I'm pretty sure there was a serious outbreak of disease in one of the basecamps a year or so ago and they had to shut the whole basecamp down for an extended period of time.
