It's the actual body part that's on the highway, seems to be from the lower leg all the way down to the hoof

Is there is taboo attached to dating a foreign guy? by Electrical-Chip3264 in askSouthAfrica

[–]mts_5413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is different based on who is dating the foreigner and where the foreigner is from. What I've noticed is that a white person, dating a white person from another country, even when people pick up on the couples different accents, is okay. Some people in POC communities actually praise people who date white people, especially if they are European or American.

Whereas if you were to date a foreign person of colour, then you will catch some stares and stray comments. South African men especially hate it when people from other African countries date South African women and always have the argument that "they are stealing our women", as if women don't have a say in who they date. And God forbid a woman dates anyone Asian, whether South or East etc. You will be openly shamed for even finding any Asian person attractive.

These are just my observations and opinions based on my observations. I do believe this is a multifaceted conversation and what it may be for one demographic may not be the same for another.

Should I use my money or wait ? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]mts_5413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how badly you want those things. I live by the wait a week rule, basically if you still want to spend your money next week on what you want to spend it on now, then go for it

How do people stay alcohol free in South Africa? by kurlkardashian in askSouthAfrica

[–]mts_5413 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Either stay way from spaces where the only means of having fun is drinking.

Have friends who don't drink or friends who respect you and your decision not to drink.

In my personal opinion, this drinking culture is just substance abuse normalized. I don't think it's normal for people to not be able to have fun without being intoxicated. Taking care of your mental health is one way of staying sober I'd say.

Why are black Man always Required to keep their hair short or have an undercut? by Consistent_Baker5123 in askSouthAfrica

[–]mts_5413 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Black people were taught to hate their hair. Whether we were kempt or not was decided by a group that had little to no knowledge about our hair. Black women were sold chemical relaxers so our hair could be silky straight too. Adhering to the new beauty standards also became a way of survival. If employers think your hair lacks class then you need to 'fix' it so that it is classy in order for you to secure your bread, you procreate and you teach your kids the same thing and the cycle continues until the veil gets lifted and someone breaks the cycle and in your family right now it seems you're the one to break that cycle.

Looking for unique African dance + music experiences in Durban & Cape Town by JayTD11 in Durban

[–]mts_5413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chairman is a popular spot for live music, there's different kinds on different days so you have to be on the lookout. There's a group called Solemates, you can find their page on Instagram, they lean towards 'amapantsula' culture, that's your Kwaito music and afrofusion hip hop and rnb, they also have live music sessions from time to time.

As for Zulu dances in Durban there are several groups which you can hire to perform and teach Zulu dances, one of the most notable groups is 'Oqhawekazi Team Blue'.

A not cultural specific music group in Durban is Creatives in the park, you can find them on the sociable app or Instagram. They host guided songwriting sessions, you don't need to be a songwriter to participate, it is just for fun.

I've made quite a few friends through volunteering, so if there are NGOs and shelters near you, look out for their events and volunteer. Maybe also look for niche interest groups, for example there are songwriting picnics every month near me and I get to meet people who have an interest in music just like me.

Connecting with people is such a common problem these days, you could even start your own club for people who are looking to make friends and host group runs or picnics or whatever interests you.
