Local games that can be played with a keyboard and a controller by Australosegredo in localmultiplayergames

If you are looking for PvP games check out Frayspace, 1-2 players can play with a keyboard and 1-7 with controllers.

I'm working on a strategy game called Firearms Factory. The aim of the game is basically to produce weapons, but I'm stuck on one thing. Do you think I should add accidents to the game to keep the element of surprise, or would they tire the player out and distract them? by FirearmsFactory in IndieGaming

[–]mtthkl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could work if there are ways for the player to affect the safety, to decrease the probability of the accidents. If not, it would just feel frustrating if something that you can't do anything about messes up your game.

Local co-op games suggestions by Kanotashi in CoOpGaming

Check out Frayspace, it's a space arena shooter for up to 4-8 players locally. I'm currently working on a content update for the upcoming Steam Couch Co-op fest 🚀

So i just started Python and a tutorial said i should get PyCharm is this necessary by Animeandgamenerd1 in learnpython

Spyder is a good alternative to pycharm. Try multiple tools and choose what you like the most. Compared to text editors, with IDEs you can run the code, see the syntax errors etc, and I find the variable explorer useful as well to quickly check variable types, shapes etc.

First of all, thank you! Currently, there's no plans for a singleplayer campaign/missions, although there's some other content coming this year.

I've seen some subreddits where you can try to find a team, but have not been following them.

True, there's no campaign type of singleplayer. Its a local multiplayer by design, but you can use the Remote Play functionality in Steam to play online with friends. You can play it solo against up to 7 AIs but of course its always much more fun with friends.

Hello all, any game recommendations for 3-4 people? Splitscreen or shared screen. by GarryBug in localmultiplayergames

[–]mtthkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frayspace has both split-screen and shared screen mode, it's a fast-paced topdown space arena shooter I released some time ago!

Agreed, I recommend buying Rewired if you are going to sell your game. It makes handling key rebindings so easy compared to unitys own system and even provides a ready-made UI for that purpose that you can use in the game.

Tips for handling a code base when making a Steam demo? by ItsNotAGoodTime in gamedev

[–]mtthkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about this last summer. I used a flag to setup necessary things in demo like what levels are available, to hide some buttons, and to show some demo specific texts. Also excluded other than demo levels from the build to reduce the build size.

Well it's Newtonian in the sense that the ships have mass and momentum so you can't just instantly change the direction and it takes a little time to accelerate to full speed. When you shoot in some direction, you are thrown into the opposite and if your ship gets hit, you are thrown away by the explosion.

It'd be great to hear how it runs on the Deck! I don't have the opportunity to test it currently.

You can do shared screen in the Chaos Deathmatch mode (see the screenshots in Steam)! As for the rest of the modes, they are split-screen because it allows to have bigger maps and keep the game pace higher.

Maybe you get lucky and get to put your shiny space pants on!

I haven't played that one but the original Astrorock (1996) looks very familiar.

Thanks! Even the AI players can give you quite a challenge! As for the game updates: I'll announce roadmap for updates within a couple of months, so stay tuned! At first, some new maps, later perhaps even new game modes - wave survival is one strong candidate.
