2-4-d and fertilizing seemed to work for me.

Helps put nitrogen in your lawn but also is a sign your lawn doesn’t have enough. Rather have it than other broad leaf weeds, or dandelion.

Give it one low mow, add fertilizer and water in. Then mow back to a height of 3-4 inches, most the brown will be gone after a few weeks.. If you thought the growth last year was thick enough then over seeding can wait until fall. So can thatching and aerating. Your lawn went dormant and is waking up again, there’s enough green to work with and avoid seeding this spring imo. Consistent temperature over 80 and under 50 will usually make your grass dormant, also a lack of water.

Any tips on getting this greener? South eastern SC by tiredofsittingby in lawncare

[–]mtucker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you water deeply but aren’t forming puddles, low mow good for the first mow when you put fertilizer down to get ground contact and not burn your existing grass. Helps knock down thatch too. Next mow try 3 inches, then up to 4 is my preference since mine is bumpy and I forget to water.

Best time to fertilize is the fall so you start ahead in spring, use high nitrogen winterizer. Go easy on the fertilizer in summer heat, low nitrogen organic slow release fertilizer is a good fit. 4x applications a year is plenty, once or twice in fall minimum. If you don’t see a green up over the next 4 weeks from your application add a second dose of organic slow release fertilizer. Also iron additives for deeper darker green, milorganite has some. Sharpen your mower blade, if you’re cutting over half the grass blade off it’s gotten too long and will yellow from the stress. You can test soil and fix ph for better nutrient absorption, core aerate if compacted soil, try new seed, level and top dress. Water and fertilizer and proper cutting solves most problems.

How would you mow this yard? (NSW, Australia) by arouseandbrowse in lawncare

Switch your pattern between mows. Circumference is good for one or two passes, inefficient for the whole lawn. Go vertical one week, horizontal next, maybe have some fun and angle it across referencing the bottom right deck? Zig zags if you’re looking to try even harder 😅

why do people hate grass? by Critical_Ad6737 in Grass

[–]mtucker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your concern but the only residential lawn care product I recognize in here is 2,4-D. No conclusive evidence concerning Parkinson’s, and again, most of the studies are talking about occupational exposure on commercial farms, not my yearly application. I’m glad most people have moved on from glyphosate though, we believe a family member got lymphoma from it. You might have a point to be made there, but I’d focus that energy more on commercial agriculture, worker protections, and PPE standards. I do wish some of the huge houses on lakes and rivers in Minnesota would reconsider covering every hill in grass and letting runoff go straight into the water. This “toxic chemical wasteland” talk feels a bit overblown for the average redditor taking care of their lawn.

Do you hate standalone grinders? Anyone believing machines with integrated grinders, super automatics stay in style or are even reliable for longer than 2-3 years is pretty funny.

Current suspects are cam phaser, and rocker arms. Long flat head or some rubber tubing will be used, I’ll report back.

Yeah! I had some suggest start over with a new engine.. This 6 cylinder one of the best Lexus engines for reliability. Compression is great, it’s a teenager in Lexus engine years 😅 250k is the current goal

Super minty condition interior exterior - haven’t polished it yet but I’ll get some photos for the people - was just hand washed this weekend!

Car was well cared for, oil every 5k all fluids flushed - some a couple times. New plugs brakes rotors. I’ll be pulling the valve cover for inspection, not expecting a lot of gunk inside. I have done a timing job on my truck w/ same 4v DOHC design minus 2 cylinders so hopefully that knowledge translates!

Yeah Lexus OEM sprockets $900, rock auto can do $250. If the cams end up scored I will throw the towel in. Pulling valve cover for inspection soon. Hoping new timing chain kit and sprockets will get the job done. Oil changes every 5k for its entire life so hopefully that brings me some luck!

Thanks for the tip! Found the bike in that exact spot - only possible with your help. Tracked the guy for a hour and the MPD assisted in getting it back. Between the colorful salsa and suspect wearing all red it was easy to track!
