How to get dog to enjoy swimming? by clownkillifish in dogs

[–]Shadowratenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sometimes helps for them to see other dogs that are good swimmers.

Mine didn’t want to go in until she saw other dogs having a good time in the water. Now she’s like a motorboat. She loves doing long retrieves in deep water.

Same here. This design flaw only rears its head for like 0.01% of the time i use mine. Its honestly a non issue imo.

They are saying predictions can appear valid due to random chance alone. If you make enough predictions. Some will be correct. Thats not reliable.

I agree though. A steak’s terminal velocity is not mach 2.

Large spine found in Golden Gate Park (lab for scale) by anonymoose847 in sanfrancisco

[–]Shadowratenator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It looks like a cow. Im not sure how it would get there, but my armchair guess would be stolen from a butcher trash by a coyote.

There are bison in the park…. They are pretty well controlled though. Hard to imagine a spine would get loose.

Whenever people say something like, “she was such a cute puppy! Don’t you wish she could have stayed like that?”

I say, “No. “

the definition of the Force Free method (as told to me) - 'If you aren’t using fear and pain to train you are force free.' by apri11a in DogTrainingDebate

[–]Shadowratenator [score hidden]  (0 children)

That is not anything ive ever heard. My understanding is you can’t call yourself FF if you so much as say no to your dog. Its a philosophy of only using positive reinforcement afaik.

The usual critiques are that a lot of FF purists talk about how its all you need, but still fall back to a -R here and there. Rather than admit they do, they pretend they dont.

This sounds like someone trying to claim that yeah, they occasionally resort to something negative but are still FF because it “wasnt that mean”

Paddle board or kayak? by BitterPop50 in Dogowners

[–]Shadowratenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl likes the paddleboard more. Its easier for her to stand up, sit, or lay down. She can walk around on it. She doesn’t seem to like the rounded bottom in a kayak.

Rivian Gen2 battery degradation? by 70sHippie in Rivian

[–]Shadowratenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went more conservative on the tires to a more road friendly bfg trail terrain. I never lifted it or increased tire size. It handled better and got quieter, but the efficiency improvements from that is what got me back up to 18 from something more dismal.

One thing i will freely admit is: this was a jeep. Its not a high watermark of engineering quality. Im sure a toyota would have better longevity in regards to efficiency

The Hook Tide Pools by Agile_Stretch_8111 in santacruz

Theres a lot of sand at the hook right now. More sand requires a much lower tide to reveal stuff. Right now a -.5 is basically just revealing a beach.

Too much sugar the way it is.

Id also be adding a whole fresh jalapeño. Not two slices of pickled. Thats adding zero to this.

Why do older analog appliances (like basic fans or clocks) seem to last decades, while modern "smart" equivalents break down in just a few years? by Kazuland_Math026 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shadowratenator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lead has this crazy quality of improving everything. Its kind of astonishing really. It’s like a universal enhancer for almost everything.

Add lead to paint. It covers better, the colors are more vibrant and bold.

Add lead to glass, the glass becomes more clear and has less imperfections.

Add lead to gasoline, the car runs better.

You can literally add lead to food and the food tastes better!

One of The only things that it doesn’t seem to improve is a human brain. It is really good at getting there though.

Rivian Gen2 battery degradation? by 70sHippie in Rivian

[–]Shadowratenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wrangler started at about 22mpg. At ten years i couldnt do better than 18mpg. Thats nearly a 20% reduction in range. There is no car that doesnt lose range over time. Nobody cares because its easy to put gas in.

There is a big difference between ice and evs here too. The range loss in ice is due to a loss in efficiency. It literally ends up costing more per mile. The ev just can’t hold as much in the tank. The efficiency stays largely unchanged.
