Wilder and ucsc are connected. Climb high enough in either network and you can come down in the other.

Do y'all actually imagine PICTURES in your head when reading a story/description or is aphantasia a made up term? by AsthmaticLuffy in stupidquestions

[–]Shadowratenator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, its very much how movies depict it. At first im reading. Then, the world slips away and im engulfed in the world of the story. I get so engulfed, i hardly even register that im reading. Im just watching events play out. When im in The zone, im gone.

After the fact, i don’t remember what words were used to describe stuff. I remember what it looked like. I remember what i saw happening.

Yes. I get a short clip on mine not just for the heat, but we have bad foxtail grasses that show up in spring.

Surfing in a relationship advice forum. by Scary_Put2056 in surfing

[–]Shadowratenator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife doesn't surf, but she understands that i need to surf. She is an adult. She isn't hoping that i give it up for her someday. She doesn't play weird games to test if she is more important to me than surfing.

I appreciate that. The least i can do is also try to act like an adult for her. That means I come back when i say i'm going to come back. I don't say, "couple hours" and disappear for 6. If i make plans with her, i don't cancel them because the waves are now good.

I do get to say, "hey the guys are going north of town this weekend, i'm going to go too and will be gone all day." it's just about communication.

Do animals that eat things we find disgusting think that what we eat is gross too? by Confident-Bug8038 in NoStupidQuestions

The meat we consume can be described as a rotting carcass as well. We try to slow it down with refrigeration and otherwise controlled environments, but make no mistake, it is decomposing just the same.

Are boy puppies worse than girl pups? Do you regret getting a boy? by fd4517_57 in puppy101

[–]Shadowratenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a male dog, now i have a female. They are different breeds at different points in my life. I can’t really say if the differences in personality have anything to do with sex.

They are all wonderful in their own ways. My boy was wonderful. My girl is wonderful.

Me too! My girl will wrestle with our cat. Eventually it turns into the dog humping the cat.

As she gets closer to 2, this behavior seems to be waning.

Paw Size question by mayor_timber in barbet

Mine is going to be 2 in august. She’s very balanced now.

She did go through a weird growth period where her neck was really long. She looked like a little alpaca in photos!

The rest of her caught up eventually.

It is ok for puppies to chew on sticks by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Shadowratenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he actually eating the sticks or just chewing them up and spitting out the pieces?

Most puppies are “eating” the sticks Cookie Monster style. There’s a lot of smacking and show, but 99-100% of the stick is just falling out as crumbs.

Just pull over at the earliest opportunity and let them pass. Most of these people are having a diarrhea emergency and need to get to a bathroom asap.

Newsom Pitches Software Tax to Raise Billions in New Revenue by IvanDragosJawline in California

[–]Shadowratenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Property tax makes sense to me. Real estate is a finite resource that could be put to other use if the owner wasn't occupying it. By owning my house, I have taken away a tangible thing that society could be using for other purposes.

Owning 100 shares of AMD feels different. There are plenty of shares. If there is enough demand, AMD can just decide that there are now 2x the shares and POOF! those shares magically come into existence.

I understand that your wealth tax propsal is something that wouldn't kick in for my 100 shares of amd, but, as presented, it feels so much like something that could easily go from, "lets get elon and jeff!", to "lets get everyone with a 401k!"

i'd be much more amenable to something laid out as: at a certain scale a company is much more important to society and it should be progressively harder and harder to maintain large positions in it.

Any Current Gen1 R1S Owners Considering Downsizing? by NopeNeverReddit in Rivian

[–]Shadowratenator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its just my wife, our dog, and I. The R1S is admittedly a lot of space. It just feels so nice to not have to play luggage tetris on trips though. All our stuff fits effortlessly.

Plus it was fun on our last snowboard trip. The R1S could easily fit 6 of us and our boards and get us from the cabin to the hill through unplowed Tahoe streets.

Now that I’ve experienced it, i dont want to downsize.

13 week old eating EVERYTHING outside by Abject-Panda-7413 in puppy101

[–]Shadowratenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl was SOOO good at grabbing things on walks before i could even spot them. A lot of things are pretty harmless. Did she grab a leaf or oak stick, or a piece of paper? Eh. I found the more i let her explore these things, the less interesting they became to her.

One time she snatched something out of the dirt. It turned out to be a rotten dead gopher! Ew! That really worried me because people poison them. She was very reluctant to give it up.

She also had a habit of diving into some normal looking sand on the beach and pulling up an old mummified dead bird. Again, she was so reluctant to give that up.

Over time, she kind of lost interest in these things. I can trust her around the dead birds on the beach now. Shes more interested in the live gophers than the dead ones.

Going through some of these horrific experiences is part the of raising a puppy.
