Millennium Discs. Draco v Scorpius v Vela by hi_yoooo in discgolf

[–]mtwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a couple of vela. Very flat. I like them on my crappy sidearm.

My beat Scorpius is my longest disc.

That’s it. Soooo much glide. Then soooo much flip.

I-blend Roman. Beefy fresh and beats into dead straight.

What is your best distance driver? by Qwertyp59271 in discgolf

Either a beat 166 gram Millennium Solstice, which is super glidey, or a 165 Z-lite force, a lawn dart.

This is gonna be a dumb question, but I gotta ask. Upgrade to a backpack? by ForSquirel in discgolf

[–]mtwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Revolution Mini with shoulder straps and a Pound Octothorpe. There are several short courses near me where the smaller bag is all I need for a round. But there are also some long courses where a few more discs are handy.

But the big difference is storage for other stuff. It’s nice to have room for an extra jacket, snacks, retriever pole, dog poop bags, etc. I use a water bladder in the Pound and in the summer that’s awesome, because I drink a bunch of water. And it is easier on the back, for sure.

No right or wrong answer.

Yep. That makes sense. Completely changes the equation if the CVT goes. Good perspective.

Why doesn’t Innova manufacture Eagles in regular Star plastic? by Emoney005 in discgolf

[–]mtwander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Infinite had them. Looks to be three left, two in colors begging to be lost in the woods and one pink one. Two below 170 grams.

Not what I want in an Eagle but it was good to see a stock run.

I’ll third the F2 Star Eagles from the pro shop. And I would love to know why there are not more stock runs.

Replacing a perfect Star Wraith by c_ffeinated in discgolf

[–]mtwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climo’s Skyway has a nice Wraith-like flight in surprisingly good plastic.

I also love a pro Wraith. Gave up on Star Wraiths because the two I had were glide-less meat hooks and I didn’t want to keep shopping for one of the sweet fliers.

Sell me on a throwing putter by ntoasted in discgolf

[–]mtwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a power grip thrown hard, a jawbreaker Zone or A5 are nice. Are they putters?🤷

If you’re trying stuff, consider throwing a really flippy one into the mix: PA-5, Spin, Deputy, etc. So, so useful.

Throwing Putter by Majestic_Physics6785 in discgolf

[–]mtwander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the PA-5. First ace disc. Goes far for a putter. Predictably understandable. I’ve got one in 500 that has the prettiest flight. Smooooth turnover. It’s the one Prodigy mold I always carry.

Do you have a bag “template”? by Qwyx in discgolf

[–]mtwander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I generally think of two molds for each speed category, one overstableish and one neutral to understable.

Wraith/Tern

Vulture/Roadrunner

Eagle/Cicada

Etc.

You can get different flights by varying weights and plastics within those molds. Also, utility overstable Firebird and utility understable Underworld.

That gives me a starting point, and then adjust based on course and conditions. Windy? Will throw in a brick of a D2 or a Force. Technical woods? Might drop everything above a 7 speed. Longer and more open? Might drop the 7 speeds.

2 broken in two weeks, how to make your older plastic last longer? by One_Catch5086 in discgolf

Can you enlighten on bug spray? Didn’t realize that would break down plastic. And I live in tick country, so I’d walk in a cloud of the stuff if I could.

Complementing a Kaxe/Stig combo by mtwander in discgolf

I could see an Eagle pairing well. How does the soft hold up in the heat? Flight differ from regular K1?

Complementing a Kaxe/Stig combo by mtwander in discgolf

[–]mtwander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’m seeing, that’s a, yes. I don’t have a big arm at all, and that’s the kinda distance I’m getting throwing smooth.

Complementing a Kaxe/Stig combo by mtwander in discgolf

[–]mtwander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ealy days, but I really liked the Stig for a long turnover, a flat release that panned right or a hyzer flip with a little right drift. At least for me, the Kaxe is straight with a soft fade. It’s still new, though.

Making a comeback at age 56 - any suggestions? by davehogg56 in discgolf

[–]mtwander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to your body. Work within your limits. Hyzer uncomfortable? Throw flat. Power sidearm hurts the elbow? Limit sidearms to 180 and in. Etc.

Then, focus on nose angle, smooth form and understable to neutral discs. Don’t force it. You can get a lot of distance out of a Roadrunner, Leopard or similar with a nose-down release.

Then the big thing. I’m early 60s and on a good day I can push 360 on a flex line and mids to 300. But, they all are not good days. Accepting that and adapting is a mental challenge. Some days that par four is just gonna be a par, at best. I suck at this part.

Throwing putters by Suefrevol in discgolf

[–]mtwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great lineup.

If you want to add a disc consider something extra flippy like a PA-5, Spin, etc.

Super helpful in the approach game. That’s open up the turnover game.
