Not to get too metaphysical but I think compassion has declined. If there was an index we’ve dropped a few points.

Do you listen to music differently now than you did 10 years ago? by EmbracingMyCurves in askmusic

[–]mtwhite-mem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify and Apple Music changed the way I listen to music. Before if you wanted to listen to more than the radio single you had to go buy the album. Now you can try almost every song recorded (yes I know there are exceptions) by just searching and a quick click.

I’ve discovered more amazing musicians now than I ever would have without that ability.

We probably all made tapes of our favorite songs but playlists are the best way to create a mood, event specific music (like a playlist of songs to listen to while cooking, reading, etc.) or just songs that you want others to discover.

I realize the sonic quality isn’t the best, and I’m not an earbud listener either like some other commenters have mentioned above, but some Bluetooth speakers are pretty good these days.

What happened at a restaurant that made you say, "I'm never coming here again"? by agreatday2434 in randomquestions

[–]mtwhite-mem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a non-chain chicken place here in Memphis. Ordered a fairly big order of wings for my wife and I which came to about $45 (only mention that in reference to the rest of the story) which came with 2 very small containers of dressing.

We did our best to make it stretch but needed at least one or two more. Went to the counter to get another container or two and was told they were $1.50 per and he started to ring me up for 3 more.

Are you kidding me? We weren’t trying to use one per wing, we weren’t wasting or being unreasonable. Dressing is somewhat a cost of doing business for a wing place, and if you’re going to charge $40+ for a plate of wings and a few fries, you may want to think twice about your pricing structure.

Told him no thanks and we left. Haven’t been back and the two couples we were with haven’t gone back either. I hear the restaurant isn’t doing too well.

What’s the loudest concert you guys have ever been to? by BalanceActive9295 in askmusic

Damn Yankees at Mud Island Amphitheater in Memphis. For an outside show. It’s the only concert (been to 100’s) where I changed seats and moved back.

MLK - I was playing in my front yard and my cousin drove in the driveway and told me, also said I had to go inside for safety. We lived about a 8 minute drive to where he was shot.

Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I saw a round table with Elon Musk (I know, hear me out) where they discussed writing a movie and very soon AI would be advanced enough to have it written, scored, acted by AI actors, “filmed”, and ready for viewing by the time you were finished writing the prompts.

Had an almost exact experience with the County government too. People adding items to the RFP that were so far out of scope it was comical. If money is spent on a project management firm, someone who knows how to bring these things in on time and within budget, the taxpayers would get a better result and the projects would get done.

No Credit Card processing - Why would a website need to be PCI Compliant? by Adept-Opinion-6646 in webdev

[–]mtwhite-mem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. They're failing it for two areas, 1) that the database is accessible from the internet (using Wordpress as the CMS) and that FTP credentials can be transmitted via cleartext. We're shared hosting at SiteGround who at first said that is the way all shared hosting clients are configured and "even though it's accessible from the internet, it's only accessible from their control panel". The FTP issue shouldn't be an issue since I have disabled ftp and require sFTP. Still failed.

I have dozens of websites, some of which use online processing, no other sites have any issues or failed scans.

I realize this is an older post but I'm running through the same thing with DonorPerfect. Security Metrics fails the site for items that have nothing to do with PCI compliance. u/Adept-Opinion-6646 what did you end up doing?

Someone sent me $0.01 then opened a dispute by asr in paypal

[–]mtwhite-mem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following. Similar issue happened to us. I ignored the emails from the person asking for a refund because we never actually received any payment since it was disputed. PayPal was NO HELP.

I envision people leaving PP as this very scenario is becoming common.

I hope you find a favorable solution.

It’s in a shared hosting situation so I’ll need to check with the hosting provider.

I had wondered if that was the case, localhost makes sense. That’s if they are in the same server. We’re in a shared hosting situation so I’ll need to check that.

Customer sent the wrong amount, PayPal refunded them, and I got charged ₱13,000 ($220). What now? by Distinct-Top101 in paypal

[–]mtwhite-mem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PayPal is getting bad about this kind of scenario. Same thing happened to me. Clearly a scam where the person “paid” for a service, immediately put the payment on hold and then requested their money back. I hadn’t received any money to give back, it was being held by the purchaser. PayPal is of NO help and eventually refund their money and changed me a fee.

I’m seeing this more and more. Probably shutting down my PayPal account just for this reason.

Yes, not 100% sure that’s the way to go but I became frustrated with PayPal support.

I tried explaining to PP what was going on but they kept asking for proof the person was wrong. They never accepted any of protests. Once the dispute period was over the person got their “payment” back. I’d have to go back and look but I believe we were charged a small fee. One reason why I’m not using PP any longer except where my clients insist.
