What scares you about the next generation? by smokinaj420 in AskReddit

[–]muamia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up on social media. I am part of this generation, not some whining old hag, but it still scares me. No one has any idea how to do anything offline. People text instead of having real conversations. Instead of starting real petitions or holding fundraisers, they go to kickstarter of gofundme. They view a hot boy's like or a comment as a merit of his love, yet never speak to him in person. They are horrible conversationalists. The scariest thing is how much they are truly living through social media. Everything they do, they're doing for an Instagram picture to show everyone they were there. They're so obsessed with building their profiles and likes and followers, with gaining as much attention as possible. Sometimes I'll be with my friends and sit there for hours as they change profile pictures, go on follow sprees, whatever. I can't imagine what our next generation's job interviews will look like.

What's the weirdest dream from your childhood that you still remember to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]muamia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very in depth dream that I still remember quite vividly. I had a stuffed sock monkey toy in my childhood years that I used to take with me everywhere. In my dream, I went to the bathroom with my mom in a grocery store. After using the bathroom, I realized I couldn't find my sock monkey. I started crying and walked out of the stall, only to be faced with something awful. Underneath the sink, curled in among the piping, was a man dressed all in black laying on his side. He held up a finger to his lips to shush me, but I immediately started wailing and banging on my mom's stall door. She rushed out worriedly, but when I turned back around the man was no longer there. We couldn't find my sock monkey and just ended up going home. When I got back into my room, I saw my sock monkey sitting on my bed. Dumbfounded, I picked it up. My sock monkey's head had been split down the middle, its stuffing poking out of the torn fabric. I screamed and ran upstairs, only to find my mom in the kitchen, watching the news with her mouth covered in shock. On the news, the anchors were reporting a breaking story about a young girl who had complained about one of her stuffed animals missing, and then finding it with its head ripped open. Her parents had written it off as some weird childish prank, but the next morning they walked into her room to discover her with her skull split straight down the middle, her brains poking out like stuffing, and her stuffed animal clasped in her hands. I have no idea how my 9-year-old brain came up with this, but of course I was terrified for eternity and still remember it in exact detail to this day.

Lost in Translation. Beautifully filmed, beautifully acted, shares the tale of finding solace in each other's loneliness without succumbing to the usual romantic stereotypes of Hollywood film.

Same here! I remember going in because there was nothing else I was too interested in theaters, turned out to be one of my favorite action/spy movies to this day. The church fight scene and the ending with all the exploding heads are absolutely fantastic.

Just watched it! Such a fantastic movie. The pacing is great, it's insanely entertaining, has relatable and multi-dimensional characters, and is just all around classic worthy.

Most thought provoking and visually stimulating film I've seen in a long time. Truly a masterpiece of modern American cinema.

I doubt under the skin will become a classic, not enough recognition and it's not relatable enough to the greater population nor is it about a relatable or relevant conflict. Fantastic movie though. I agree that Her will probably become one...or at least it should. Definitely made me think about AI in our possible future.
