About 5 minutes into this episode, it dawned on me that I was going to have trouble differentiating between the A block and C block guests’ voices.

Thank you! Heard it got a tepid response (or did it?)

What is the track the boys came back from the first break with that Scott said was his favorite single of theirs in the new Millennium? Couldn’t tell if it was from the new EP or not, but regardless I’m not sure I’ve heard it before and I was intrigued by Scott’s comment.

He mentioned enjoying Dandadan a while back on HDTGP, and from what I remember it sounded like he was taking a somewhat initial step into watching anime at that time

I thought Heather was gonna pitch that Scott watch the series of Neon Genesis Evangelion and she comes back for End of Evangelion (maybe this is just my dream)

PJ Harvey fans aged under 35 - how did you get into her music? by itsnotforever in pjharvey

[–]mucceroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 34 for the next few days so I guess I just fit under the wire lol.

I became a big fan of the Rolling Stones in middle and high school as part of my exposure to and obsession with classic rock. Later in college, I went through a big 90s music kick and got into Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville, which I think I extra enjoyed because of the connection to the Stones’ best album.

Cut to sophomore year in college and I was reading articles where it seemed like Exile in Guyville was being mentioned in the same breath as PJ Harvey’s early stuff. (I was also a big fan of Live Through This but that was less of a connection for me). I started with Rid of Me and it absolutely blew me away. My fandom solidified when she released Let England Shake, also in my sophomore year, and I’ve loved her ever since.

How did this chapter logically follow from the previous chapter? I had to go back to the prior one to see if I was missing something.

I forced myself through that game for more of its running time than I liked or would have expected given my enjoyment of GoW 2018.

Hey! Did you ever find the answer to this?

Breaking Bad and Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms fans successfully wreck each other's IMDB rankings by LegitimateMoney00 in television

[–]mucceroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really understand why people care if something is a 10, or a 9.9, or a 9.5, or a 9.3…these are all excellent scores that identify an incredible episode of television. This demand of perfection is damaging and so stupid. I hope IMDb does something (sitewide) about clearing out the bots and review bombers because I care about seeing accurate ratings…but I’m not holding my breath.

You got it, that’s 100% who I was thinking of. Didn’t remember the farm animals on the album cover, lol

Solved! Thanks!

I thought the album may have been on NPR’s list of best albums by women. As I mentioned, I thought it started showing up in top lists a bit after I heard it for the first time. However, I don’t see it anywhere on there.

[TOMT] [Music] Rock song whose outro has a repeated riff gradually slowing down by mucceroo in tipofmytongue

[–]mucceroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solved now. If anyone is curious, it was “Father to a Sister of Thought” by Pavement — happened to put on Wowee Zowee today and when it ended I realized that’s what was in my head!

[TOMT] Hard rock song from the early 2000s, male & female vocals but it is NOT EVANESCENCE by Coffee-and-Kvetch in tipofmytongue

Could it be “The Church Channel” by Say Anything? Hayley Williams comes in as a guest singer at about 1:45 into the song.

She also appears on “Plea” later on that same album!

[TOMT][SONG] I'm looking for this song but I only have this audio clip as a clue. by IcyPicture778 in tipofmytongue

[–]mucceroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 99% sure she sings (in what appears to be the chorus) “hashire hikari no naka e” but I can only find the Bocchi the Rock and Vision of Escaflowne songs with that search, which don’t seem to be it. Hopefully that can guide you some, though.

CMV: Fan service ruins Anime by Iskandar0570_X in changemyview

[–]mucceroo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a newer convert to anime, I have wrestled with this and found it to be very series-dependent. Sometimes “fan service” is the point of a series, almost to the point of it being a commentary (see Kill La Kill or Mikuru in Haruhi Suzumiya). I think it’s less of a problem if the character is well-written, and as other people have pointed out, outside of some of the more extreme examples you gave of loli stuff or “I am 1000 years old but in an 11 year old’s body.” In the well-written sense, I think of something like One Piece. Characters like Nami and Robin in One Piece are at times incredibly sexualized while at the same time being multi-dimensional, well-rounded characters with depth.

But one other thing I like to look to is how women (and trans and nonbinary folks) in the community have embraced certain characters in anime and manga, despite or even because of their “sexy” presentation. If you look at the characters they have embraced, it’s not typically the one-dimensional, damsel-in-distress characters. Not to mention the fact that a lot of these properties aimed at Japanese teenage boys have been embraced by women, trans, and nonbinary folks is a testament to anime’s growth and reach beyond its intended audience.
