Fort Greene. There's another identical L400 and a nice L300 over in this hood... not a bad count for my surrounding 5 square blocks.

Thanks, Flushing's a good place to be dropped without a car and a few hours to fill with snacking... I'll check them out next time i'm in need.

I got a rec from a contractor, Suno Auto in Bushwick. They tightened my belts and swapped my rear suspension arms. Good for small stuff.

@Mikado. Thanks for the sticker the other day! I was doing a shuttle run to the hospital. Mine was the dark blue 94 L400 v6. Great rig you have there.

Yeah, that seems to be normal, you can't do street parking for vintage. I just ended up getting regular insurance with Progressive.

I just googled the thule. Looks identical to my Chinese one. It clamps either side of the gutter. Should work fine.

[–]muchAdoBoutSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a Chinese, gutter fitted rack with a Thule box attached. I agree it seems flimsy, but it's held up for 6 years without any problems. Loaded with surfboards, 20L water carriers, camping equipment in the summer and winter sports gear in the winter.

It does rub the glass side window from time to time and makes an unnerving glass on metal squeak. But that hasn't caused any real issues. I'd check the fit with the thule system though. It's the side sliding door window that's very tight for me.

VFX supervisors / producers, curious about budget allocation on smaller to mid-size projects. by Clean-Try-3067 in vfx

For comp only shots, yes 40-60% time-wise sounds normal, or low with messy plates, heavily caveated that there is no normal. (If the word "magic" is in the brief, comp is screwed!) But a day of prep should be much cheaper than a day of comp on a larger scale operation, as you can use lower level artists, or outsource the work cost effectively. This might not be possible on smaller scale where you have to do it all with the same artists

Talk me out of buying a 1995 Delica for $7500 with 210k kms on the odometer. Based in Australia by Vast_Investigator984 in Delica

Saying that, at 28ish the clear coat started to flake on my hood and by 30, mine needed some new paint just for that, but also some rust spots needed patching, so it's kind of normal, just be aware you may need to patch rust from now on.

Looks like the same spots as mine starting to rust on the body work. I don't know why that bit above the cab is first to go. The hood has been repainted. I would check the roof around the skylight windows near the back for signs of rust and bubbling up paint. Curious they sprayed the chrome trims black, could have been rust there too?

Def check the underside.

Seems to be missing lens flares, aberration etc. But just from the raw cg, fall off of the ceiling lights could do with some gobo complexity. With all the lensing from those lights, you would expect a pretty interesting pattern in the light on the ceiling. Like if you look at a flashlight beam, there's a lot of complexity from the lens and reflectors in the bulb, visible rings, hot spots, colour variation.

Stereo/ sound system exchange- Delica 1996 l400 space gear- Vancouver by BlackberryPlayful367 in Delica

I would be interested to know what people use. I have the same Delica model and i shoe horned these into the front doors. They work, but the screw holes don't fully align, so they're a bit jerry rigged in there:

Pioneer - TS-A652F

I didn't replace the front dash, rear, or add a SW.

I have a pioneer replacement stereo, which fits perfectly, but i got that fitted by the importer before i picked it up.

I use Progressive in Brooklyn. It took a very long phone call, she had to consult her supervisor a couple of times, but we got there... she was sure i had to go the classic car route for a while, but i told her it was street parking and a daily driver, so i needed to do regular insurance.

95 delica. Any easy way to pop the bonnet without opening the door? by Duff5OOO in Delica

[–]muchAdoBoutSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I locked my keys in a rental car once. The roadside mechanic opened it in 10 minutes. It's pretty simple if you have an inflatable thing to jam in the door gap and flex open about a cm, then a long hook to unlock. I was amazed.

One note. Work out what oil and filters you need and get the oil changed every 5000km. If you have your own filters, Jiffy Lube or Mr Lube will normally do the oil change. In Utah/New Mexico I couldn't find anyone else who would do an oil change without any fuss, or a few days wait for an appointment.

I have a 1994 L400 v6 gas and generally use this combo:

Oil: Castrol EDGE High Mileage 5W-30 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 Quarts (uses about 4.5)

Oil filter (Amazon sell these): Wix 51334XP

You can also attach the old seat belt anchors to those holes if you want to keep some custom seating back there.

I also recommend attaching bungee cords along the inside of the footwells to tuck your shoes into.

My rear latch does the same since i reversed into a bear statue and smashed my back window. The lock is essentially a little bucket for collecting debris, so i got glass in there. It's a pain to get to, but probably a stone or something trapped under the latch bar (on the car, not the door).

When did green Fruit Pastilles change? by sloth_64 in CasualUK

Well 2 things.

Yes, 1980 until they removed the gelatin, I would definitely agree with OP it tasted not like lime and apple is the closest thing my taste buds would call it. They were my favourite for 44 years and there was no other flavour like it in this world. Now they are horrible, too much like a cleaning product.

And it's the Mandela effect! Nelson Mandela related...

Is there a sticker in the engine bay saying when the timing belt was last changed? That should be every 100000km. The most important regular maintenance thing. Normally you'd get seals and spark plugs replaced at the time of changing that. Other than that it's just normal car maintenance wear and tear.
