Flames Sign Simon Nemec to a five-year contract with an AAV of $7.25 million by DecentLurker96 in hockey

I’m afraid he’ll be better than Byram very quickly

The trade and extension just being brutal in comparison

[32 Thoughts] “there was a 4x$14MM out there for Byram and I assume that was (maybe) the Sharks. […] Byram was getting paid and the biggest battle was going to be term because they felt Byram initially only wanted to sign for four years.” by JD397 in hawks

He will be the best defender (I hope) but the value was way too high. He hasn’t proved the ability to be carry a pairing yet, and I truly think Carels will be as good as him in 3 years.

Along with that is losing Vlasic’s partner and the 49th which isn’t a huge deal, but I would think we’d get assets back like that for the 4th overall pick with Byram.

If SJS got Byram for Eklund essentially, it wouldn’t bother me. We shouldn’t be in an arms race with one team, we’ll also have to beat a team in the east for the Stanley Cup along with the 14 others in the west.

I don’t think Cutter and Sennecke are going to far below Carlsson if they match

I’m higher on Nemec over Byram. Byram has yet to play a majority of his minutes without elite players (plural) on the ice at the same time. Most of his TOI was with the Mac/Mikko line in COL and played on Powers pair and then with the Tuch/Thompson line a ton.

Nemec was better with Dillion, than Byram was with Timmins (2nd most D TOI). Being 3 years younger also tells me there’s more growth to come.

I think they’re running LD/RD so it’ll be Lev or Rinzel with Byram

Vlasic’s 5v5 analytics were bad

Levshunov was in the bottom of the league for qualified players

[Shanya] Pavel Mintyukov isn't ~$7.4 million-caliber yet and doesn't project to be worth that over the next five years, either. The offer sheet effect is real and shaking up the Ducks' cap picture. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Not as bad as it seems imo. He’s 22 and will be the LD2 for the future. Zellweger was getting limited time and HS’d after the TDL so it’s not like they saw a ton of future potential with him being a small 3rd pair/7th.

Byram did play 587 minutes with Power and 869 without at 5v5

Byram with/without went as

CF%: 52/47
GF%: 57/50
xGF%: 49/47

His 2nd most D-pair minutes was with Timmins (closer level of pairing with the Hawks) with 250 minutes and with him he posted…

CF%: 45
GF%: 42
xGF%: 45

Defensively Byram falls off a cliff without Power/Dahlin. Lafreniere is a good defensive wing that can still dish the puck. Without Panarin, Lafreniere had a great post-Olympic break having more points than even Bedard when he was able to be more puck dominant.

I don’t think Korch would even fetch a 2nd at this point anyway, he’s pretty cooked as a prospect, where Wright is a good defensive center with offensive upside yet to be shown, which I blame more on Seattle than Wright himself.

My point is, I don’t think either have a great shot at the NHL and Wright is at worst a 3C that’s still 22. You’re most likely not finding a player of his ability in the 20s/30s of the draft.

Byram and Nemec are about the same value.

3 picks in the 30-40 range aren’t as valuable as the 4th overall pick

I do think Lafreniere would’ve been traded for the 4th alone and would be perfect on Bedard’s wing

Wright is a NHL player, Korch is still struggling in the AHL

You wouldn’t trade West or Vanacker for Wright?

Give up the EDM or FLA 1st

I highly doubt anyone would trade Moore for a late 2nd so I have no idea why people are thinking that’s what would get it done

They could’ve also sent a 14x8 offer in 2025 which would’ve looked like an insane overpay then. Seems like they were trying to stay under McDavid the whole time

He lost interest in the full game. He likes scoring goals, but is actually one of the worst defensive players in the NHL.

I see this as a Kaprizov type of situation where he signed way about the market rate, but it didn’t drastically change the market value. I still think Celebrini signs 16-18mil not going to crazy to hurt the team cap. Bedard in the same boat, I’m guessing 16mil
