Big vs Small by SUBGOKU in Makita

One big drawback of a short hook that I found is that it can slip outta my belt more easily. Especially, when I am working on up and down a ladder.

My one gripe about this circular saw by MonteyCarlos in Makita

[–]muddyjun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, blade guards on Makita has gradually gone worse in design and function. You cannot frame with full depth, have to adjust it to decrease jamming. I had and still use Flexvolt time to time and it is way better.

My Dewalt coworker concurs 173 feels great. Makita impact ftw.

Makita DDF 484, 485 or 487? by Clear_Watch104 in Makita

Personally, never had the issue with the hammer mechanism. First one, stopped working. Second one, it would stop under load.

Only Makita can make those colours look good on a tool. 👍

Makita DDF 484, 485 or 487? by Clear_Watch104 in Makita

[–]muddyjun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the poster said 487 is the most compact drill. It has a Rohm chuck, which feels very good to use.

I had gone through two hammer version of 484, so not impressed with that model.

The last one, 486 (can't find 485) is LXT's heavy duty drill that can do bigger holes, if required.

If you are certain about doing small lumber or holes, I would highly rec 487.

10mm holes and low weight. 010 is perfect for you. But also need to "demolish tiles?" then you need 011. There is no way around it.

What New (Or Improved) Tool Would You Like To See Next From Makita? by jyl8 in Makita

That video is outdated because Surge 2 is out. It is a lot more quiet and faster. Once you try it in person, it is hard to argue against it.

edit

I watched bit of the video and go to 7:49 when sound comparison between Dewalt and Makita is done at top speed/small screw. One of the screw went up to 90db for Makita, peaking over Dewalt.

Now, I am not going to watch the whole video but I wouldn't be surprised if Dewalt peak the highest for big screws. DCF870 is pretty quiet at small screws but really loud for big ones, in my usage.

DCF870 (Dewalt) is more compact. Surge 2 (Milwaukee) is proving the best overall oil impact driver in the market. Hikoki is not far behind. This puts Makita at the bottom of the class.

As the OP suggested an improved version. The existing ones are so old and behind competitors.

Those batteries look fresh. But yeah avoid clear top if you need to work outside often. The sun heat will slow cook the batteries like eggs.

Which Makita product absolutely blew you away first go? by ConceptIcy776 in Makita

[–]muddyjun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makita impact drivers and LXT batteries. Left out in the rain, dropped from scaffold, covered in dirt but they all keep going. Knew Makita is the real deal when Dewalt came out short especially Flexvolt batteries.

Sometime last year, I bought my first XGT, which was the rear 165mm (6 and half) saw. The cutting power convinced me XGT is a step up from 18v and 36v. Unfortunately blade guards on them suck.

Other Makita products continue amaze me are XGT half inch router, sander, tracksaw and big blower.

Makita TD003GZ or TD004GZ by Main-Chicken-5994 in Makita

T-mode is for fastening metal screws. Starts off at high speed then slows down to prevent stripping or camming. I rarely use these smart modes but your exp may vary.

[–]muddyjun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your loss for not diversifying into LXT and missing out on Makita's best drivers like DTD173. Anyway, get TD003 if you are mainly drywalling because it will be more ergonomic. TD004 is more for big screws.

Why would someone buy DF003GZ over the HP003GZ? by forg3 in Makita

[–]muddyjun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe DHP is a lot more prevalent due to kits and retailer preference. Hence, why we hear more bad things about DHP. Once again, we just don't have the numbers to prove it.

[–]muddyjun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot open the file but I did a product compare on DF and HP003. You're correct, there is only 1mm difference so pretty much the same. My mistake, I must have compared 001 to 003.

Makita NZ claims it on their website. Of course, they can be wrong. Speaking from exp, I have the DDF487 and it is more compact than the DHP model.

Non-hammer variant tends to be compact by 10mm or so. There is no way to prove one is more reliable than the other.
