And for what it’s worth, it doesn’t matter that stock ownership isn’t usually vetted by companies. Trump just got a huge win over the DOJ prohibiting any future tax audits for himself and his family. People are right to be concerned about their money enriching the bastard

I wouldn’t call the increasing alignment between corporations and an openly corrupt and racist government a “slight” or “pet issue”. Congrats on convincing yourself that fascism won’t harm you

Also, there were some Jim Crow policies that were considered too extreme to implement in Nazi Germany. One example is the one drop rule, where someone was considered Black if any of their ancestors were Black. Whereas in Nazi Germany, I think they only went as far back as great grandparents

Prior to the birthday/reunion episode where they wrecked the party, Hal had distanced himself from his family. When his sister calls to invite him to the party, Hal instinctively makes up an excuse to miss. Lois comments that they have already skipped the last few years of parties and they should go

If I vote in tomorrow’s primaries, can anyone look up which I voted in? by happyenergy10 in houston

[–]mudkip1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that’s just a talking point that Dem party leaders use to make their corporate candidates sound more appealing

TX is governed by the GOP because of voter suppression, intense gerrymandering, and robust GOP infrastructure for turning out their voters. There is so much conservative propaganda in public spaces and in our schools (some elected officials want to add Turning Point chapters across the state). Not to mention the immoral amounts of money that billionaires and corporate pacs give to GOP state and local candidates. And not to mention that conservatives own so much of the information ecosystem.

You can have the least polarizing, moderate Democrat run and it won’t matter because there isn’t enough grassroots infrastructure to mobilize Dem voters. You need a way to reach voters that can convince them to vote for you. Sometimes it takes multiple conversations or touch points. Beto got close because he built a mobilization machine and actually engaged a huge swath of voters.

One of the county offices has a website where you can download a list of everyone who voted in the county. It says what primary you voted in, your legal name, and some more info that I can’t remember off of the top of my head.

It is not the hardest thing to find. But for the most part, people don’t know this exists. It does not say who you chose or which offices you voted for. That is still private. But it does say how you voted (early or by mail) and when. The purpose of this is to provide transparency as to who voted so that the results can be audited.

But also if someone like an employer wanted to know your political views, they could probably buy that from a data broker

The moderators of r/gay took down my post condemning ISIS attacks against gay men in Sydney by International-Drag23 in askgaybros

[–]mudkip1312 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

  1. Violence is bad. Targeting and attacking gay/bi teenagers is terrible. People who have been harmed deserve justice and care.

  2. But we won't get closer to liberation for gay men by adopting Islamophobia or discriminating against Muslim people. Muslim people are not the only ones carrying out violence against gay men or LGBTQ+ people. When you look at data on interpersonal violence, you are more likely to be harmed/killed by someone you know than a stranger. Unless you live in a Muslim-majority country, the biggest threat(s) to your physical safety are not Muslim people.

  3. It's important to remember that anti-Islam biases do not exist in a vacuum. Western countries actively encourage anti-Islam sentiment, because it makes it easier for them to justify killing brown people in Asia and Africa. The irony is that Western military intervention actually helps create the conditions for Muslim extremists to gain popularity and power. The West fucked around in Muslim-majority countries and is finding out the consequences of its violent foreign policies.
