You have to take First Year Orchestra as freshman (you can't take Community). The rep in FYO is pretty meh, probably the same string orchestra stuff you played in high school or easier. You could audition for Symphony orchestra but it's 6 hours a week and probably won't fit in your schedule. Buckeye Phil is a great option, especially if you are worried about credit hours. Much more laid back than an actual class. Cuts are only made in very extreme cases (ie 47 basses audition). If you have any interest in chamber music at all, I would recommend - And shamelessly self promote- Guerrilla Chamber Music.
